consideration for operators at construction sites and utilities with widely distributed assets, often in remote locations.

Atlas Copco’s cloud-based Fleetlink telematics system can provide geofencing, performance indicators, automatic reporting and remote function lockout, allowing users to view the data on customisable dashboards.

Low-emission legislation

Kevin Prince, General Manager of Atlas Copco Power Technique, told EHN that it was important for suppliers and hirers to maintain awareness of new technologies that helped meet the needs of end users. Legislation is also a key driver, with cities like London introducing low-emission zones necessitating the use of environmentally friendly plant.

He said that this brought its own challenges. A generator running at a constant low speed, for example, would reduce emissions but be less able to burn off carbon deposits. One solution could be to use a variable speed generator, such as Atlas Copco’s QAS VSG series, in tandem with a battery pack.

At the Executive Hire Show, products on display will include Atlas Copco’s HiLight Z3+ battery powered LED lighting tower. This gives zero noise during operation, with no emissions. Its lamp assembly comprises four 160W LED lights with a claimed life expectancy of 50,000 hours. The machine’s hydraulically elevated vertical mast has an 8m maximum operating height and offers stability in winds of up to 50mph.

The HiLight Z3+ uses lithium-ion battery technology. In comparison to lead-acid and gel battery types, it offers up to 20% more DoD (depth of discharge) according to the manufacture, along with three times more energy density and a lifetime of 6,000 cycles. This is said to be equivalent to six times more than alternative technologies.
