Double celebrations for AJC EasyCabin
AJC Trailers recently celebrated a double win at this year’s Green Apple Awards. The manufacturer’s EcoSmart Zero emission-free welfare unit won a Gold prize and its H20 Solar Pod was presented with a Silver award. Sales Director Lisa Gillett,
accompanied by workshop foreman, Jonathon Denny, attended the award ceremony at the Palace of Westminster. The EcoSmart Zero is powered by a combination of a hydrogen gas fuel
cell and a solar power system. This means the unit operates almost silent and emits only pure water vapour. The power to run the heating, sockets, kettle and microwave comes from a battery bank. The H2O Solar Pod, which was developed in conjunction with Nixon Hire,
can deliver up to 30kVA via solar panels and a back-up generator. The Awards are presented by the Green Organisation an international,
non-profit environment group that recognises environmental best practice around the world.
Hire Network Award shortlist announced
The remaining two companies shortlisted for the Hire Network Award have been announced. The West Thurrock depot of access equipment specialist, Generation Hire & Sales, and the Derby branch of Hireforce, were nominated towards the end of last year. Completing the line-up is the Barking location of Toga Hire Centres. The Award recognises excellent team performance at a specific depot.
“The staff at Generation Hire & Sales always give consistent high service, supplying aluminium towers, podium steps and similar equipment,” Hire Network General Manager, Kevin Sherwood, told EHN. “Similarly, the team at the Hireforce Derby depot always perform well, offering helpful, reliable service.” The winner will be announced at the Executive Hire Show in February.
LCVT vehicle pleases Construct-Equip
Construct-Equip has purchased a new LCVT low floor 3.5-tonne vehicle to operate out of its Birmingham depot. The hirer, which also has a branch in Telford, has operated
similar vehicles for a number of years, alongside larger trucks. When looking for a replacement, Birmingham Depot Manager, Glynn Johns, was impressed by the fact that the LCVT chassis conversion had been designed from the onset for commercial applications. The Fiat Ducato-based unit was specified with a 3.8m bed,
allowing fence panels to be carried. A winch has been fitted so that generators and heavier items on wheels can be positioned in the back of the vehicle. In addition, a combination tow ball with tachograph was included so that larger plant and lighting towers could be towed. The LCVT vehicle can tow 2,300kg.
BPH goes green
Hydraulic implement specialist, BPH Attachments, has purchased two new electric vans as part of a long-term plan to reduce the company’s carbon footprint. The
Renault Kangoo vans are the first of many that the family-run business intends to purchase. The two vehicles should save just under 3,000 litres of diesel fuel per year. Charging points have been installed at the BPH head office
in Billingshurst, and these will also be available to use free by construction industry professionals.
New Mobile Mini MD
Mobile Mini, which specialises in hiring portable site accommodation and secure storage containers, has appointed Andrew Thompson as its new Managing Director. Andrew originally joined as Regional Director for the North, before adding
overall operations and supply chain management to his remit. The company currently has 15 depots and employs 420 people. He started his career as a warehouse assistant and a series of
promotions saw him work his way up through store and regional management while studying business and finance at New College Durham and the University of Sunderland.
