PREMIER HERD LEADS TRADE

n 16th December a quality offering of Holsteins were forward for the Border and Lakeland Sale at Carlisle. Leading trade at 2200gns was the pre- sale champion Wormanby Legend Ruby from the Hodgson family. Sired by the Knowledge son Wormanby Legend, she sold to the judge Andrew Wilson, Northshields Holsteins. Averages: Nine cows in milk £1417.50, 62 heifers in milk £1552.47, nine Hailstone cows and heifers £1383, 20 Mellguards cows and heifers £1138.97, 15 in-calf heifers £948.50. Top price at Border and Lakeland Club’s December Sale was Wormanby Legend Ruby at 2200gns.


JINGLE ALL THE WAY TO £2050 T


he December Mid Month Sale at Beeston saw a far more upbeat sale result; as opposed to two animals hitting £1800 the month prior, this was achieved 24 times this month with 10 animals selling for over £2000 and six more than £1900. A top price of £2050 twice, firstly for a tremendous heifer from D and A C Shakeshaft of Colemere, this super Pirolo Goldwyn Wyman daughter sold to an undisclosed buyer. Andrew Shakeshaft had a fantastic consignment in the sale, with all but two selling for more than £1800 and all heifers keenly sought after. A heifer from Jack and Barclay Taylor shared the same price for a Bassingthorpe Drayman daughter giving 34kg, also from this home three others sold for £2000.


NWA DAIRY SALE


On 7th January at Kendal a small entry of five fresh heifers sold to a top of £1220 for an entry from David Martin, Lords Plain. Average: £1070. (NWA Auctions)


£1600 TOP AT SKIPTON

n the 11th January Skipton Auction Mart held its first dairy auction of the year with 36 cattle forward. Top price was the champion heifer from Peter Baul’s Ravensgate herd. This Overside Dragon daughter sold giving 32 litres a day for £1600 to Alf and Andrew Townsend.
