rade for pedigree heifers at Holstein NI’s show and sale at Moira saw 18 lots change hands to average £1286 a head in a 78% clearance. Pre-sale champion Relough Goldday Heather from the McLean family led


trade at 2140gns. Sired by Heidenskipster Goldday, she is out of an EX classified home- bred Ked Outside Jeeves daughter which averaged 9293kgs at 4.18% bf and 3.22% p in three lactations. Backed by seven generations of VG


and EX dams, she calved three weeks prior to sale and sold giving 35 litres daily. She was knocked down to Kyle Henry who runs the Crankey Herd based at Jerrettspass, Newry.


CHRISTMAS CRAVEN DAIRY AUCTION L


eading trade at the festive Craven Dairy Auction on the 23rd November was pre-sale champion from Peter Baul. Ravensgate Renaissance Marigold 166, by Cogent Rennaisance sold 28 days calved giving 32kg a day. She was purchased by Alf and Andrew Townsend, Southfield, for £2000. Averages: heifers in milk £1613, cows in milk £1351, maiden heifers £514, heifer calves £303.30. (CCM Auctions)


Pre-sale champion Ravensgate Renaissance Marigold 166 was top price at Skipton in November, selling for £2000.


KILLANE DISPERSAL T


here was standing room only on 25th November at the Killane herd dispersal which saw trade peak at 4400gns and 4000gns.


The sale attracted


considerable interest from pedigree and commercial herd owners from throughout the UK and Ireland and marked the end of an era for brothers Austin and David Perry who were retiring from dairy farming. Sale leader at 4400gns was the 10-month-old heifer Killane La Bron Roberta 56 PLI £306, backed by six generations of Excellent dams this calf is sired by Ladys Manor Graf La Bron. Her dam is the legendary Killane Outside Roberta 4 EX95-8E and after spirited bidding she sold in a two-way split to pedigree breeders Arnold Boyce and Dennis Torrens from Garvagh, County Londonderry.


Next best at 4000gns was Killane Galaxy Roberta 50


carrying a PLI of £251, a De Su Freddie Galaxy daughter. Her dam was also 100t Killane Outside Roberta 4 EX95 8E which has gained seven stars. She sold in-calf and due in the January to Seagull Bay Silver, the successful buyer was John Barkley for his Maineside herd, Ballymena, County Antrim. Killane Outside Roberta 4 is 13 years-old, and projected to produce in excess of 9800kg in her tenth lactation. She is


backed by 12 generations of VG and EX dams, and has bred five EX daughters. In- calf to Sandy Valley Pacific, she attracted a bid of 2350gns and sold for export to pedigree breeder John Greenop, Wigton, Cumbria. Averages: 76 cows £1708, 23 in-calf heifers £1818; seven maiden heifers £2475 and nine heifer calves £1723. (Taaffe Auctions)
