merging victorious in the SuperCow championship

at AgriScot for the Laird family was Blythbridge Blackjack Jackie. A fourth calver, Jackie had earlier claimed the Holstein championship before going on to take the overall Supercow title for Alastair, Kathleen, Colin and Ann Laird, 15 years since their first Supercow title. Calved in May she was shown giving 70kg a day and is back in-calf to Doorman with a projected yield

of 15,000kg. She came to AgriScot with a formidable show record, having been unbeaten in her class in 2015, including being first at the Royal Highland Show, champion at Biggar Show, first at UK Dairy Day and grand champion at Northern Expo, in 2013 she stood first at AgriScot. Judge Alan Timbrell commented: “It was a close placing between the champion and reserve in the senior cow class. They were similar cows,

but the champion was more graceful on parade and tracked better on the day. I have a soft spot for older cows, the industry needs cows that are productive and last to be economical. It is fantastic to see two outstanding home bred fourth calvers from the same breeder.” Standing reserve was Blythbridge Goldwyn Rosalee. Fresh in September, she was also giving 70kg a day on show day. Classified EX94- 2E she is backed by a further
