BRITISH FRIESIAN BULL PROGENY COMPETITION

strong entry saw judge, Brian Dalby, travel the length and breadth of the country and across the water to Northern Ireland, in his quest to find the winner.

Brian said of the judging: “It was a great honour to be asked to judge the Club’s Bull Progeny Competition and an enjoyable task when I got down to it. It was encouraging to find such a high standard of animals presented for inspection, leaving a difficult task to pick the winners, as there was so little gap between all animals presented. “While this left a difficult task it also showed what high standards are being maintained in the breeding of a modern dairy animal that will continue to keep the breed at the forefront of economical milk production.

“This is an excellent competition which continues to promote the use of new young bulls within the breed.”

The winner was Collycroft Juniper (J E Archer and Sons (Farmers) Ltd) while second prize went to Castledale Odyssey (G S Stockdale and Sons), with Lismulligan Mufasa (B Lawson and Sons), a worthy third.
