MASTER BREEDER UPDATE

aster Breeder rewards Holstein members whose herds achieve a high standard in both classification and production. The award criteria have recently been reviewed and updated by the board of trustees and are set out in the table below and can also be viewed on the Holstein UK website. Females carrying the member prefix and which are recorded as having produced a lactation within the last two years, are eligible for inclusion in the calculation. A herd achieving an average score of four points or more and a total points score of 150 or more, will qualify the member as a Master Breeder. Members will only be eligible for one award in any 10 year period. In order to apply, members should contact Darren

M

Todd on 01923 695 275 or email darrentodd@ holstein-uk.org. Please note that applications can still be made for the Master Breeder Award this year up until the 31st March 2016. Members will need to submit by email or post, a milk recording statement confirming the cows currently present in their herd at the time of application. Members are, however, not required to calculate points for their animals themselves, as this will be carried out by a Holstein UK computer application. Master Breeder Awards for qualifying herds, which have applied since January 2014, will be presented at the Holstein UK Celebration in Lancashire on 7th and 8th June 2016. Notice of this award will be sent out by post.

NEW HEAD OF EVENTS

NEW CLASSIFIERS to have H

appointed two new classifiers to make up a 14-strong team. Mike Deakins from Kent and Luke Harries based in Norfolk, will be based in the south of the country.

Both bring knowledge and enthusiasm of the industry through different backgrounds. Mike has years of experience as a herdsman, while Luke has been heavily involved in preparing cows for leading herds across the country, as well as being successful in HYB.
