C

laiming overall honours under New Zealand judge Selwyn Donald in the Holstein and overall interbreed championship was Liam Murphy’s Evergreen Duplex Ebony. This fourth calved Duplex daughter stood champion at Tullamore and Iverk Shows, as well as honourable mention at the Baileys championship. Fresh in July and giving 48kg, she is projected to produce 11,240kg at 3.91%bf and 3.23%p in her fourth lactation having been classified EX95.

Commenting on his judging Selwyn Donald said: “I have had a fantastic day, the overall champion and reserve are two of the best cows I have seen anywhere, the placing was so close. The overall depth of rib gave the champion cow advantage with a little more style and ring presence. “It is a great credit to the breeders and young show men who brought cows out so professionally. It takes months of preparation to get cows

looking in top form.”

Having battled it out for top spot in the mature class Hallow Advent Twizzle 3 EX95 stood reserve Holstein and reserve interbreed champion for Philip Jones’ Hallow Holsteins. Fresh with her fifth in September she produced 13,500kg in her fourth lactation and was shown giving 38kg a day. Sired by Advent she also stood second at the Royal Ulster Winter Fair 2014, among many other successful results she was exhibitor bred champion at Millstreet 2013 and honourable mention at the Irish Spring Fair 2015 behind her daughter which stood reserve champion. She has two Atwood daughters, one classified Excellent as a second calver and the other sold for €10,600 to Conor McAufield. Millstreet and first at Tydnavet Show. Coming through as the winner of the senior heifer class she also stood interbreed heifer champion.

“This heifer is a young super

star,” said Mr Donald. “She fitted the same mould as the champion and reserve. This heifer is gorgeous, she has femininity, balance, style and is refined with a tremendous mammary.”
