n a continued effort to help its members at a time when all costs are being closely monitored on dairy farms across the UK, Holstein UK has announced immediate reductions in registration fees, explains Holstein UK’s chief executive Richard Jones. “The ongoing pressure on milk prices is forcing every dairy farmer to critically examine all their costs and this is no different for Holstein UK members. As a result, and in order to help its members at this difficult time, Holstein UK is applying these cost reductions to encourage members to continue registering their cattle. “While there may be a temptation to save money by not registering cattle the benefits of registration continue to outweigh the costs, including increased sale prices and the opportunity to benefit from

higher valuations in the event of a TB outbreak or other disease issue."
Holstein UK is reducing all registration fees by 5% with immediate effect, while the suspension of late fines will run for a further 60 days to 31st March, explains Mr Jones. “Everyone involved with British dairying is aware of the pressures currently placed on producers, so the Society is prepared to do all it can to support them and avoid unnecessary charges for membership and registration fees,” he continues.
Members will also be aware that as of 1st January the option to pay membership fees via Direct Debit monthly rather than annually was introduced to help spread payments.
Furthermore, a new level of Holstein membership has been introduced in the form
of associate membership for members between HYB and full membership status. “Associate membership is open to anyone over 26 years of age who is not registering any cows with Holstein UK. For example, this could apply to anyone who no longer qualifies as an HYB member, anyone attending a judging school who is not already a member of Holstein UK and any industry organisation which does not register cows,” explains Mr Jones.
Associate members will receive the Journal and a pin number for accessing the Holstein UK website. The pin number allows associate members to access the virtual cow, members directory, club news and access to their electronic invoices. Associate membership costs £42.00 + VAT a year and this can be invoiced monthly.
