Gardaland opens world-first Jumanji-themed attraction

The result of an international agreement between Sony Pictures and Merlin Entertainments, the new attraction - Jumanji® The Adventure - represents the latest of Gardaland Resort’s investments in fun and entertainment for all the family.

I

talian amusement park Gardaland’s new Jumanji-themed attraction, inspired by the blockbuster series of films from Sony Pictures and created with an investment of over 20 million euros, was inaugurated on 12 April - right

on time for the summer season. Colourful fireworks and, staying on theme, a symbolic “cutting of the jungle vine” marked the official opening of the new ride. Aldo Maria Vigevani, CEO of Gardaland, said: “The park is continuing

with the winning strategy of licensing deals with key global brands, focusing on international cinema successes and the chance to offer its visitors unique experiences. The global importance of the Jumanji brand will contribute to strengthening even further the reputation of Gardaland Resort as one of the leading tourism destinations in Europe, placing it among the market leaders in the entertainment industry.”

Immersive theming Jumanji® The Adventure is a dark ride for adventurers of all ages, from families to teenagers to young adults, which features an exciting and engaging story: visitors are assigned a mission to return the sacred gemstone to the legendary temple in order to save the kingdom of Jumanji from an evil curse. The exterior of the attraction is completely covered with the Jumanji jungle vines and dominated by a huge hippopotamus head with huge gaping jaws, looming over visitors and protruding 6 metres out from the facade. After passing through a mysterious Egyptian temple, a desk acts as a portal

into the world of Jumanji, and visitors find themselves in a mysterious bazaar of Magic Mirrors, in which they can watch their own reflection transform into the image of their selected avatar.

Twists and turns From the bazaar, a thrilling journey begins, as visitors are taken through 12 different location settings, on board special jeep-style vehicles meticulously based on the famous 4-wheel drives from the film. There are 12 Oceaneering EVO - 6™ vehicles in total, each with room for 6 people, allowing throughput of almost 1,000 people per hour. The journey takes visitors through 12 scenic locations, in a highly immersive

experience inspired by some of the most iconic scenes in the famous film series. The vehicles not only move in a linear direction on the track, but also react to dangers, obstacles and audio and video effects along the way, twisting and swinging around to simulate the movement of a real jeep. Seven screens, all suitable for large-scale projection, provide visitors with

the emotion and amazement of the Jumanji jungle from up close, to make them feel like protagonists in the story.

Ominous animatronics There are many dangers to face along the route: from an animatronic

hippopotamus - which thrusts open its enormous jaws, surprises visitors and pushes them straight into the adventure - to spiders ready to drop on unsuspecting heads. The Stone Giant, the most striking of the various animatronics along the

ride, is represented by an enormous grinning head (5.50 metres high and 6 metres wide), complete with fiery eyes, which emerges from a cave lit up by lightning. Further along the route, his immense hand (4 metres high and with a palm spanning 3 metres) will try to stop the adventurers in their journey. The animatronics were designed by the Gardaland creative team,

part of Merlin Magic Making, and were themed and built by Turkish company Futuraform, part of the Polin Group, which creates stage sets and animatronics for fun parks, cinema and hotel chains around the world.
