Cover Story

Hunt invites guests on an expedition down into a ‘newly-discovered’ system of caverns located beneath the historic street. Legend has it they were once a secret hideout, where famous Pirate Captain Hippolyte Bouchard and his crew of scallywags hid their treasure. Explorers will be provided with Cavern Car vehicles and Treasure Collector devices that will help them traverse the terrain and hunt treasure down in the subterranean tunnels. But this adventure is not without risk… Bouchard’s hideout can be a very dangerous place to explore, and adventurers must fend off attacks from creatures and natural threats. They may even catch a glimpse of Captain Bouchard’s ghost, his Skeleton Crew or

the fearsome Kraken! The pirate-themed dark ride takes adventurous storytelling and location- based family entertainment to new depths. Hand-crafted set pieces, animatronics and special effects blend with interactive gaming suitable for all skill levels. The 19 minute total ride experience (consisting of a 15 minute preshow and 4:30 minute ride) has a capacity of 320 people per hour, via six rotating, variable speed, track-bound vehicles, each holding four passengers. This is the first time Sally Dark Rides and Daniels Wood Land have partnered on both ownership and production of an attraction, and Cannery Row, with an average of 5 million visitors a year but as yet a limited family entertainment offer, represents a lucrative opportunity. Treasure Hunt is the first and only dark ride on Cannery Row, and provides an unexpected, theme park-quality dark ride attraction at a highly visited tourist destination, ideal for kids and adults alike.

A slew of hits VOLKANU and Treasure Hunt join the ranks of Sally’s hit projects to date. Recent successes include two Thea-award recognized dark rides, Justice League: Battle For Metropolis and Sesame Street: Street Mission. For a while, Sally was boxed-in as a creator of small, black-light, reasonably

low-cost rides (e.g. Scooby-Doo, Lego’s Lost Kingdom Adventure, Boo Blasters), but the company has amply demonstrated what it can do with a heftier budget, aiming to create something of great magnitude for today’s ‘destination parks’ and high guest expectations. Treasure Hunt and VOLKANU - Quest for the Golden Idol are prime examples of this new breed of dark ride - elaborately themed, seamlessly interactive and - most importantly of all - effortlessly fun.
