Flight of the Fønix
The wait is over: Denmark’s biggest roller coaster, the Fønix, took to the skies at Fårup Sommerland on Saturday 9 April. The roller coaster, another giant from Dutch manufacturer Vekoma, is 40 metres in height and 905 metres in length, and has a top speed of 95 kilometres per hour.

ot only will the Fønix be Denmark’s largest roller coaster, it will also be the fastest and highest in the country. What’s more, compared with other Scandinavian roller coasters, it exposes its riders to the most ‘airtime’ -
i.e. the experience of weightlessness achieved through drops, loops and twists – of which the Fønix boasts 14 different elements. Fønix will also be the world’s first roller coaster to introduce a stall loop that combines the classic loop with an inverse camelback, thus providing an experience of zero gravity for 2.5 seconds. historic day. Indeed, with the official opening, I can truly say that I have even more butterflies in my stomach. Here in Fårup Sommerland, we take great pride in presenting a roller coaster that is without comparison the biggest in Denmark – a fact

that will come to leave a significant imprint on both the Danish and the international amusement landscape,” said Fårup Sommerland’s CEO, Niels Jørgen Jensen. Danish and international roller-coaster enthusiasts alike have been
anticipating the opening of Fønix with bated breath for months. “A ride of this nature is simply wonderful news for us here in Europe,” said Justin Garvanovic, founder of the European Coaster Club. “The days of looking jealously west at parks in the US are over, and it's rides like Fønix that are responsible for this. As I have watched the ride come together over the last year, my excitement has only grown - it is looking spectacular. And I am not alone - Fønix is easily the roller coaster being talked about the most by roller coaster enthusiasts in Europe and beyond. Its opening cannot come soon enough.” Fårup Sommerland has invested close to DKK 100m (EUR 13 million) in Fønix,
which means that the roller coaster is the largest investment in the history of the park. The second-largest investment, at roughly DKK 44m (EUR 5.9 million), was made in 2013 with Fårup Sommerland’s launch of family coaster Orkanen. Vekoma’s Stefan Holtman told Park World: “After the success of our Suspended
