Therefore, parks with a strong and diverse portfolio of multiple attractions clearly have an advantage. On the other hand, a number of theme


parks were focused on adding educational programs and activities to attract more local school tours and families. This proved to be successful, particularly in the tier one and two cities.


Technology advancements drive the industry to improve efficiency In reaction to the widespread capacity controls, advanced online booking for tickets and queuing systems became common in China. Aside from that, mobile


payments and touchless payments achieved almost 100% implementation in the Chinese theme parks due to linkage with widely used payment platforms such as WeChat pay, Alipay, and so on. Another technology that has had a profound impact on theme park operations is the use of drones, which open up a greater number of possibilities for creating more immersive visitor experiences and interactions than transcend the boundaries of traditional forms of night-time experiences, such as next-generation sound and photovoltaics, fireworks, and water curtain fountains.


Looking Ahead Throughout 2020 and the first half of 2021, most major pipeline parks strived hard to maintain their construction schedule as much as possible, although delays were always inevitable. Looking ahead to the second half of 2021, Beijing Universal Studios - China’s second mega international IP theme park – will open to the public. The park is currently in the midst of its pre- opening season, welcoming residents and industry experts alike to experience the park first-hand. Another notable opening later in 2021 or 2022 will be the Zhuhai Chimelong Marine Science Park, a major expansion to the extremely popular Chimelong Ocean Kingdom themed entertainment resort in Southern China. This signals high expectations as to consumption power and willingness are still strong and once the pandemic is over they will be ready to satisfy the pent up demand.
