MARKET REPORT: EUROPE
was committed to the construction of the new play forest. In Poland, amusement park
Energylandia opened its sixth themed zone, Aquanlantis. Covering almost six hectares, Aqualantis has several exciting attractions. Themed by Jora Vision as the ancient city of Atlantis, Energyland’s guests explore the streets of the ocean kingdom, leading them to flagship attraction - Abyssus the roller coaster, supplied by Vekoma Rides. Family fun at the EKIPA Light Explorers ride, supplied by Zamperla plus several smaller merry-go- rounds for younger guests, and two newly opened food and relaxation areas complete the area. Supplied by Studio 100 / Plopsa
Group, Gerstlauer Amusement Rides and iPlay Water Attractions, water playground and flat ride, Super Wings opened at Majaland Kownaty. In Spain, following a hugely
successful two-year run of the thrilling night- time show, ‘El Sueño de Toledo’, the doors finally opened to a new Puy du Fou park in Spain where visitors can embark on a spellbinding journey through the country’s history. Set amidst 30 hectares of countryside close to Toledo, Puy du Fou
España features four superb daytime shows and four period villages. In Sweden, Gröna Lund opened
Monster, a roller coaster by Bolliger & Mabillard. At Liseberg, Underlandet, a dark ride
supplied by Quarry Fold Studio, Gosetto, P&P Projects, Lifeformations and Triotech, originally planned for 2020, made its debut. Underlandet – Swedish for “Wonderland” – extends Liseberg’s existing Kaninlandet area, which is themed around a green rabbit, the park’s mascot The dark ride features an immersive motion cabin that takes visitors on a journey underground, immersing them in a magical world of Liseberg rabbits. In the United Kingdom,
Chessington World of Adventures opened Croc Drop, an elaborately themed drop tower from SBF Visa. The base of the tower is enclosed within a temple that has hieroglyphics etched into the walls, hiding a secret message. But far more imposing is the giant crocodile head coming up out of the roof of the temple, with the ride tower coming up through the jaws. The experience begins as the temple
doors open, with plumes of smoke and lighting creating a sense of doom as you
must enter. The small group of 16 riders quickly find their seats as Sobek warns of the danger ahead with the music building, the ride begins. Croc Drop is the first new ride at
CWOA since 2013 when Zufari: Ride in to Africa opened- but it’s not the only new ride to have opened at the park in 2021, as the Blue Barnacle pirate ship from Metallbau Emmeln also opened as a direct replacement for the Black Buccaneer pirate ship that had opened in 1988 from Huss Rides.
Immersive lands Alton Towers fans finally got to enjoy the new themed area The World of David Walliams in 2021 (it was ready to open in 2020 just as the UK went into its s econd lockdown). The flagship attraction is the brand-new
dark ride, Gangsta Granny: The Ride. The story is that guests are visiting Royal Alton Hall for the Crown Jewels Tour, with guests boarding regal looking carriages for their tour. The tour begins with David Walliams narrating through the on-board speakers as the carriages venture though Royal Alton Hall, until that is, Granny and Ben arrive on the scene bringing guests along for an ambitious jewel heist. The ride system comes from
Garmendale Engineering, which is based just a few short miles from Alton Towers, whilst Merlin Magic Making were responsible for overseeing the theming and storytelling. The traditional style tracked dark ride utilises video projections, integrated into physical scenery, alongside special effects to fully immerse riders into the story. The projections and scenery are in the same cartoon style that everyone will recognise from Walliams’s books. The ride is around five minutes long and is packed full of different scenes. Ofcourse no IP in a park is complete
without a shop, and guests leave Gangsta Granny: The Ride through Raj’s Shop. Elsewhere guests can take a spin on
Underlandet, Liseberg
Flavio’s Fabulous Fandango, a Sizzler ride that’s popular at funfairs throughout the
