Park Profile

Something for everyone

With over 30 rides and attractions inspired by the wild, wild, west Slagharen ThemePark in the Netherlands is one of the most visited parks in Europe. And with several holiday homes, a water park and brand new climbing park combining to make it a ‘Resort’, it’s easy to see why. We spoke to the park.

When was Slagharen ThemePark & Resort established and how has it evolved? Slagharen ThemePark and Resort was founded in 1963 with just some holiday homes and ponies. Today we have a big resort with several holiday homes, a theme park, waterpark and climbing park - and no more ponies.

What is its ethos? We want our guests and employees to have fun and leave the park with a smile.

Describe your target market? Slagharen ThemePark & Resort is designed for families with children from four to 12 years old.

Which are your most popular rides/attractions? Gold Rush, Mine Train, Apollo, Free Fall and Wild West Adventure

It’s interesting the way your website allows guests to measure the thrill factor - how do you measure it? It depends on the guest’s height and how exciting the ride is.

Did you introduce anything new this season? Yes, Black Hill Ranger Path, a climbing park with a rope course, rollglider and climbing walls.

SEPTEMBER 2019

How do you decide which manufacturers to work with, and how closely do you like to work with them when developing new rides and attractions? First we decide which kind of rides or attractions we want;

then we look at which manufactures offer them. Of course budget is something we have to consider. And then we have a chat with the manufacturers. We work really closely with them when developing new rides and attractions.

Live entertainment is a key part of your offering. What have you got on at the moment? It is a key part, yes that’s right. We offer two shows. The first is a show of our mascots Randy & Rosie the raccoons. Here the characters Sam (barkeeper in the saloon) and Red Bandits (the bad guy) play a big part. The other show is an American Themed Circus show, with a fireman, magician and acrobat. We have a cowboy who drives several times a

day through the park to entertain and have a chat with visitors. Randy & Rosie have a meet and greet in the morning and several times spontaneously in the afternoon. We also have a parade with music and dance and all the characters. In the evening we have several shows and

entertainment for our lodging guests, like bingo and family game shows.
