The Art of Movement

Park World editor, Becci Knowles speaks to Jay Luis Aguilar, vice president of sales and marketing for Chance Rides about building fun for a living

Tell me about the history of the company? Chance Rides has been manufacturing a diverse product offering of trains, amusement park rides, trams and roller coasters for over 58 years with continued family ownership. We have manufactured, delivered, and installed over 5,000 amusement rides, coasters, and people movers, that have exceeded our customer’s requirements and expectations.

What has been your most interesting project? Every single project is interesting in its own way.

It is way too

hard to narrow down to just one when there are so many to choose from.

What has been your most challenging project? We love challenges and some of the projects we have worked on show that, the observation wheel in National Harbor, the Columbia carousel in Six Flags Great America, and the Giant wheel in Santa Monica Pier are perhaps some of the most iconic projects we are proud to say “we built it”.

We haven’t seen any new rollercoasters from you in the last couple of years……is something big on the horizon? Yes, you will see one coming very soon.

Talk me through your product range? We have the capability to do roller coasters and flat rides but are currently focusing on our core products; those being the trains, carousels, trams, and Ferris wheels.

What other services do you provide? Custom theming capabilities.

Tell me about the range of parks and attractions you have supplied to over the years? Our products serve customers that include large theme parks, small to medium sized amusement parks, FECs, Zoo’s and Aquariums, as well as stand-alone attraction venues such as: Six Flags, Cedar Fair, Universal Studios, Disney, Landry’s, SeaWorld, Mall of America, Genting, Europa Park, and many carnivals.

Tell me about some of your upcoming projects? Electric CPH Train for Montgomery Zoo, 50’ Carousel for Fuwah in China and the 60-meter observation wheel in Saint Louis just to mention a few.

What sets you apart from your competitors? Definitely the quality of everything we do and our attention to detail. Because of that our rides last for a very long time, building life lasting memories for families all over the world.

What are your biggest achievements? Our biggest achievement is yet to come! We are extremely proud of the work we have done and always strive to do the absolute best.

What do you love most about your job? The one on one contact and interactions with customers, seeing the impact our rides have on the lives of so many families, the smiles we get to see on children’s faces every day, and knowing that We Build Fun For a Living is what I love about my job!.
