Park People

Creating another world

Dutch-based design agency Leisure Expert Group prides itself on creating unique visitor experiences across the leisure, festival and event industry. A shared fascination for theme parks brought its founders together, to realise their vision of immersing guests in another world. Managing director Marjolein van de Stolpe speaks to Park World

In what ways have theming and themed entertainment changed in Leisure Expert Group’s lifetime? How have they stayed the same? We feel that the working principles of our industry never change, it is all about creating memories together with friends and families. I feel this will always remain. However, the way the guests are being immersed has changed over the years, the integration of story, scenic and technical design with all new AV techniques created a feeling of total immersion. And we belive firmly that design ideas should always be marketable, now with social media guests already can understand and feel the environments of which they will become a part of.

Excalibur - Secrets of the Dark Forest, Movie Park Germany

You have done a lot of work on rides at Djurs Sommerland over the past couple of years. What techniques and technology have you used to bring your concepts to life? A couple of years ago, together with the owners of Djurs, we started to create a ten year masterplan to evaluate the existing park and identify the opportunities to bring it to the next level. Then we wrote creative stories for all areas already in the park, as well as for the new areas to be developed. This is an ongoing process in which we keep refreshing and updating the masterplan. Our in-house design team creates the designs and we work closely with the operational and technical department to make sure the design are feasible.

Can you talk us through the concept behind the upcoming project to them the new thrill ride Tigeren at Djurs? Tigeren is a great expansion, a ride that will be one of the most extreme rides in the park. Tigeren is Danish for Tiger, and the design will fit perfectly in the newly developed Djurs Asia theming. The social media responses are already very positive and we are looking forward to seeing the opening next year and having guests face this exciting and challenging ride. We have a great connection with the owners of

the park. The mutual trust is very important, and we are always learning from each other. I am very proud to be in this partnership and to be working with our team for and with the Djurs Sommerland team.

What other new projects have you got ongoing that you can talk about? Well that is always the tough question to answer, since we are always working on projects yet to be announced. We are pleased that some of our current projects have been launched successfully,
