Park Update www.parkworld-online.com

Fnix certainly isn’t the most extreme or intense of coasters, but it is very graceful and most importantly, fun. A good way to describe it would be as a ‘my first looping coaster’. Thrill seekers will enjoy it whilst families with kids over 1.4m will enjoy a ride together that’s not overly intimidating. Fnix sets out what the park directors have long wanted

whilst keeping the magic of Toverland. Lead imagineer for Toverland Peter van Holsteijn explains: “What we wanted was the feeling of flight, in the shape of a thrill coaster, and we also wanted a B&M. We wanted a wing coaster rather than a flying coaster after riding Flug der Dämonen at Heide Park, and we knew we could do even better.” The layout for Fnix was principally conceived by van Holsteijn with help from the TAA Group and Universal Rock. The visual appearance was a key factor for the ride: “It was imagined by us. I already had the positions of the buildings because of how the sun shines and having enough light on the restaurant terraces in the evenings. In between all these buildings I had to incorporate the layout of the coaster. We combined the best parts of Flug der Dämonen and Raptor,

added a bit more length to fit the environment and the sight lines and then we came up with Fnix.” The biggest challenge lay in building the whole area in just ten months, an undertaking that meant working with 20 companies at the same time. Park director Caroline Kortooms pays tribute to her team: “It’s really magic to do something of this scale. The only way this works is with people who are inspired, who have passion, who have the same vision, and we are surrounded by such people who share the same vision. As long as we are building new attractions with our hearts every time it gets better and better. Peter and I are already thinking about the next expansion, but first we will enjoy Port Laguna and Avalon.” With the new entrance and the hub of Port Laguna,

Toverland’s expansion feels like a coming of age for the park, as it becomes a true theme park worthy of international attention. The park’s slogan is Discover Your Own Magic, and it is clear that the new areas will conjure up many wonderful memories for families as they explore the new look Toverland in years to come.
