eisure resort operator Landing International, has opened Shinhwa Waterpark at Jeju Shinhwa World, South Korea. Covering a total area of

Shinhwa Waterpark’s slides have been designed and installed by Proslide Technology, and three of the slides debuting at Shinwha waterpark are first-in-Asia rides. Super Clipper Coil is a 250m long RocketBlast water coaster with features from the FlyingSaucer. The ProSlide Torndao 60 is a 6-person thriller where riders enter at steep angles and fast speeds, then sweep up the opposite wall, experiencing a feeling of weightlessness.

Gen Z: welcome aboard

Members of Gen Z – individuals born from 1996 and onwards – are making a huge impact on the amusement industry. Teenagers generally make up a large part of target demographics and will soon be joining the workforce, so an immense amount of research is taking place to understand their impact on the industry as both a guest and a potential employee.

Currently, fewer teenagers are working for pay, and Jean Twenge, a

psychologist from the San Diego State University, recently completed a four- decade study of more than eight million teenagers, publishing her findings in the journal Child Development. She found out that today’s teenagers are coming of age in a totally different environment. Americans are having fewer children, meaning teens don’t have to grow up as quickly, affording them time to delay traditionally adult behaviour. “The reason teens are doing all of this exploring and novelty-seeking is to

build experience so that they can do a better job in making the difficult and risky decisions in later life.” said Daniel Romer, research director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center. Romer also notes that risk-taking is essential in understanding one’s place in

the world, and so leisure and entertainment venues may benefit from creating exhibits that simulate the adrenaline rush of risk (using video games or interactive activities), without the threat.

Connect&GO partners with Amusement Services International

Amusement Services International is adding Connect&GO’s RFID solutions to its portfolio; the two companies signed an agreement earlier this year while attending the Dubai Entertainment Amusement & Leisure Exhibition. Connect&GO offers RFID solutions for access control, cashless payments and

experiential activations designed specifically for the amusement park and leisure entertainment industry, and ASI will help the Canadian company to expand its permanent installation business with major clients in the Middle East market. Additionally, Connect&GO recently installed its “Parkpass” connected-

experience solution at multiple amusement parks, including Six Flags in Montreal, Canobie Lake Park, and Jungle Island.

Shinhwa Waterpark’s third ProSlide ride is the Double TornadoWave, where riders on 4-person rafts drop from the 21.22m start tub into a 385 degree turn leading to the first TornadoWave. Riders sweep up the first wall, peaking at a height of 15.2m. Rick Hunter, president and CEO, ProSlide, commented: “Landing International has done an amazing job. With three “first-in-Asia rides” – Shinhwa Waterpark is going to be a must-visit destination for years to come!”
