The Park World team took a whistle-stop tour of Amsterdam’s visitor attractions earlier this month. First on the list was the Heineken Experience, followed by a trip to Jora Vision HQ for a tour of the production facilities and some intel on their theming work on the Piratas de Bacalar attraction, created with Simworx and destined for Amikoo theme park in Mexico. Our next stop was the A’DAM Lookout, a repurposed
20-story office block which has been turned into a lookout tower and features GoPhoto technology. This gives every visitor a free digital download of their souvenir images and offers the option to upgrade to high resolution or print – adding up to an average earn of €2 per visitor. It also acts as queue line entertainment, with visitors creating various poses in front of a green screen (pictured is our rather sedate effort). Our final stop was
Brogent/Vekoma’s newly opened ‘This Is Holland’ iRide flying theatre, which took us on a swooping, panoramic journey across Holland’s most iconic landscapes. The market for short-stay visitor attractions continues to grow: Merlin Entertainments, for example, is expanding its Midway portfolio in Asia, with openings later this year in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenyang. Meanwhile, as the rush towards the season begins,
our March issue explores newly opened and soon-to-be- opened parks and water parks, as well as taking a look at the enduring role of animatronics in creating immersive theme park environments. Happy reading!
