Thomas & Friends make tracks at Kennywood
Thomas the Tank Engine and friends will come to life this year at new land Thomas Town in Kennywood Park, Pennsylvania. Thomas Town will be one of the largest single-
year additions in Kennywood’s 120-year history, adding four new family rides, plus re-theming The Olde Kennywood Rail Road into a Thomas & Friends story. The area will also include a retail center, soft-play area and the entertainment show
featuring Thomas’ friends Percy, James, Emily and Gordon. All the attractions will be placed in and around the existing footprint of the park’s train ride, which has operated at Kennywood with various themes since 1945. The rides, all from Zamperla, include Cranky’s
Drop Tower, a Sky Tower ride, Harold’s Helicopter Tour, a Mini Jet, Diesel Drivers, a Convoy, and Flynn’s Fire Training.
adventure platform, designed by AGC Outdoor Sports, will feature a Flying Fox Zip Line and a challenge course with six obstacles, including a Confident Path, a Great Bridge, Z-Wire, G-Rocky, High Bench and X-Point. The entire experience takes an hour, comprising briefings for the participants, putting on the gear, and the course challenge itself. It features a double safety line: one for participants and one for instructors and rescue purposes. The Gravityz team wanted something unique for the
Komtar Tower, and chose a ropes course challenge to give visitors an experience they won’t find at the viewing decks commonly featured in other towers. It expects 20,000 visits by the end of the year.
