Chessington World of Adventures Resort opens The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure

Gruffalo River Ride Adventure… Chessington World of Adventures Resort is the first


theme park to bring The Gruffalo to life in ride form, a character from the beloved children's book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. A world first, the picturesque riverboat journey through the deep dark woods has been created in partnership with Magic Light Pictures. Developed by Merlin Entertainments with assistance from Scruffydog transforming the BubbleWorks attraction was no mean feat.


History The original Prof. Burp’s BubbleWorks ride was a dark water ride that opened at Chessington World of Adventures in 1990, manufactured by Mack Rides guests were taken on a journey through animated scenes of a comical factory producing fizzy pop. The ride operated for fifteen years before being redesigned in 2005 to suit the new sponsor of the ride, Imperial Leather. In 2014 the Imperial Leather brand logos were removed or covered up, although the ride remained unchanged otherwise. Chessington announced that The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure would replace BubbleWorks on the January 1, 2017, with BubbleWorks closing its doors on September 6, 2016.
