Wavegarden launches Cove machine W
avegarden has launched a new machine, the Wavegarden Cove, capable of producing 1,000 waves per hour.
A demonstration model has been built at its R&D centre in Spain measuring just 50m x 80m and has been creating waves non-stop since October 2016. Software controlled, the system is able to produce a wide variety of left and right-hand waves, and at maximum frequency can pump out two waves every eight seconds. It is designed to be profitable as a stand-alone facility, and can be up- scaled to produce waves of just about any height and length. “The high wave frequency enables a high user
capacity, which is essential for surfers wanting to catch lots of waves as well as for developers seeking to establish a sound business model,” explained Wavegarden’s founder and CEO, Josema Odriozola.
Grecotel Riviera Olympia’s new waterpark to debut this summer
Grecotel Riviera Olympia is set to open their new 12,000m² waterpark this summer filled with water slides, rides and aqua towers. Attractions on offer include the Space Hole’s winding labyrinth of tunnels, the Wave Slide’s tidal surges, the Looping Rocket, the Black Hole (white water rafting) and the Multi Surf Mega Slide. The park also includes a dedicated children’s play area designed with children in mind, which includes jets, slides and a water volcano – as well as 100 aqua games in a 1200 m² paddling pool.
“The versatility of our technology means we can alter
wave height, shape and power in an instant to match the experience level of all surfers. Also, we can adjust the number of waves to cater precisely for the number of surfers in the water.”
Jordanian park closes
Jubeiha Amusement Park, one of Amman’s oldest entertainment facilities, has closed down permanently due to the deteriorated state of its rides and structures. The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) announced the closure of the amusement park for safety reasons, indicating that most of the park’s rides and structures had exceeded their lifespan. The amusement park was built in 1987 to
the north of the Jordanian capital. It features a number of rides for different age groups and attracts over half a million visitors each year from Jordan and neighbouring countries. The rides will be dismantled and sold as scrap, but an official said that that there are “promising” future plans for the site.
