What trends have you noticed recently within your marketplace and how have you adapted to meet this change in needs? A trend that Chance Rides is embracing is the element of interactivity. One of our most popular rides lately has been the Unicoaster that allows guest to control their ride experience with a joystick that rotates the seat forwards or backwards or just remains upright. To capitalize on the trend and the rides popularity we are expanding the seat concept to a roller coaster format, with the Unicoaster 2.0 the rider controlled seat will move to a custom track layout converting an inexpensive roller coaster into a looping-like coaster experience that the whole family can enjoy. Also, as I mentioned almost all of our work is customized these days. No two rides, people movers or coasters are ever built exactly alike. Whether we are just adjusting colors or providing specific themed elements we are creating pieces that help to immerse guests into their environment. We like to think that the work we do helps to take people out of the hectic world we live in even just for a few moments.

What are some of your latest ride developments? In addition to the Unicoaster 2.0 mentioned above we have introduced a new 6-passenger safari tour electric vehicle ride with on board interactive capabilities. And in celebration of our upcoming 400th C.P. Huntington Train we are developing a completely green solar battery powered electric model. This modern technology will take our classic C.P. Huntington Train into a whole new era of operation opening up many new possibilities. Also, in our wheel product line we have 2 additional observation wheel opportunities. Not all attractions have the foot traffic to warrant our 300 – 400 passenger wheels so we have introduced 2 smaller options the DGW35 or DGW45 with enclosed cabins like the larger models but not climate controlled to keep costs down. The options stand at 108 and 140 ft tall respectively and accommodate up to 216 passengers at one time. These units are also able to be fully portable allowing them to be moved into location for special events.

What do you hope to achieve in 2017? In 2016, we lost our president Michael Chance and while we grieved we pressed onward to make deliveries and continue work on our latest developments. In 2017 we want to lift up our heavy hearts and continue work that would make him proud. We have a new ride opening at Sea World this summer that we partnered with them to develop from the ground up, these are the projects that we really take pride in. We hope that all the work we do every day brings smiles to the faces of the people that get to experience them. The saying around here goes, “we build fun … but it ain’t easy” so this time of year when the deliveries are happening and the photos of smiling kids are coming back is when we reap the benefits of all that hard work.
