SEASON PREVIEW: NORTH AMERICA

Copperhead Strike, the Carolinas’ first double launch coaster, for the 2019 season. In this innovative ride from Mack Rides, the coaster dynamics are carefully crafted to offer a thrilling and intense low-to-the-ground experience. This is Carowinds’ 14th coaster. Only four parks in the world have more. Roaring to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay this year will be Florida’s

tallest launch coaster. By Premier Rides, Tigris’ triple launch steel coaster design will be a strong addition to Busch Gardens’ portfolio of thrilling rides, including some of the top steel coasters in the world. SeaWorld San Diego recently announced an intense new thrill

ride coming to the park in 2019. From Skyline Attractions, Tidal Twister will be the first of its kind in the world, a Horizon model duelling roller coaster-like ride with a unique horizontal design, twisting and banking along a tight-figure-8 track. An all-new roller coaster thrill ride, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures

Motorbike Adventure, is coming to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Replacing what was once the “Dragon Challenge” double coaster, this Intamin multi-launch coaster is expected to be one of the most highly-themed coaster experiences that Universal Orlando has ever created. West Coast Racers, the world’s first racing launch coaster, will be

opening at Six Flags Magic Mountain, Valencia, California. This one-of-a-kind racing coaster from Premier Rides will feature two side- by-side tracks with four individual high-speed launches. West Coast Racers will be the park’s 20th roller coaster, which is more than any other theme park. Six Flags Great America, Gurnee, Illinois, will debut a

revolutionary, triple record-breaking, new roller coaster for the 2019 season. From S&S – Sansei, Maxx Force will be the fastest launch coaster in North America, accelerating to 78 mph (126 kph) in less than two seconds. It will also feature one-of- a-kind custom coaster trains modelled after Formula 1 racing cars. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Vallejo,

California, is adding Batman: The Ride. Riders on this 4D wing coaster from S&S - Sansei will experience a sensory overload as they flip head-over-heels at least six times along a weightless, tumbling journey with unexpected drops and vertical free-falls. Adventureland Park, Altoona, Iowa, will

add a new $6 million spinning roller coaster for the 2019 season. From Maurer Rides, The Phoenix will be the second new steel roller coaster added in the park since 2016.

PARK WORLD Handbook & Buyers Guide 2019 9

The dizzying, new spinning coaster will climb 50 feet and hit 40 mph. When Nickelodeon Universe opens at one of the world’s

largest malls, American Dream, it will feature five roller coasters including two record-breakers. A Gerstlauer Eurofighter, dubbed TNMT Shellraiser, will climb up a vertical lift, bust through the top of the mall into a see-through tower, and give passengers a stunning view of the Manhattan skyline from its 141-foot perch, before plummeting down at a severely overbanked drop of 121.5º, the steepest coaster drop in the world, then zoom up into the rafters of the mall and deliver seven inversions. A second Gerstlauer coaster, Shredder, will intertwine with the Eurofighter and include cars that will freely spin. At a height of 85 feet and a length of 2,247 feet, it will be the world’s tallest and longest spinning coaster. The park will also introduce a family coaster from Chance Rides called Nickelodon Slime Streak, an LSM launch coaster, Sandy’s Blasting Bronco, from Intamin, and an Intamin LSM launched Surfrider shuttle coaster. Méga Parc, Québec City, Québec, Canada, has introduced

Télégraphe, a Cloud Coaster from Extreme Engineering. Relámpago, a Thunderbolt coaster from Zamperla, will be

introduced at Mundo Petapa, Guatemala City, Guatemala. Xejuyup, San Martín Zapotitlán, Retalhuleu, Guatemala, will

open a family steel coaster from an unidentified supplier. Runaway Tram, themed after the ubiquitous tram cars that

operate on the nearby boardwalk, is a Zierer Flying Eagle that will appear this summer on Morey’s Surfside Pier, North Wildwood, New Jersey. As part of Wildwood Grove, Dollywood will introduce Dragon Flier, a Vekoma family suspended roller coaster.
