SEASON PREVIEW: EUROPE

rooms, virtual reality quests and a space garden which is said to be filled with carnivorous plants. Ankapark, as it was formerly known,

opened in March under its new name Wonderland Eurasia. It is the largest theme park in Turkey and according to its founders, the biggest of its kind in Europe. The 1.3-million-square-metre park

boasts 26 large rides, including 14 roller coasters, 2,117 smaller rides, stages for concerts, and the Digital Dark Ride – a multi-dimensional theatre with hologram shows and interactive animations. The ‘Dinosaur Jungle’ area of the park

meanwhile, covers 20,000 square metres and hosts a 70m animatronic dinosaur – the largest of its kind.

Walibi Holland, new Wilderness themed area

PARK UPDATES Walibi Belgium has announced that each year until 2023, ‘novelties’ will be introduced to the park thanks to its large-scale investment plan. By that end date, 75% of the park will be transformed and eight immersive Worlds of Walibi and 10 new attractions will be added to the park’s offer. 2019 sees the opening of ‘Karma World’, which has a vibrant

Indian theme and ‘Fun World’ which is entirely dedicated to the park’s youngest visitors. MK Themed Attractions meanwhile has transformed the old

Sherwood Forest at Walibi Holland into a mysterious wilderness forest for the new hybrid coaster, Untamed, by Rocky Mountain Construction Group.

In Spain, Colorado Creek will be PortAventura World’s first zero-

emission hotel, consolidating the resort’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint. Offering superior 4-star accommodation and direct access to PortAventura Park, this new hotel (the resort’s sixth) is scheduled to open its doors on 1 June 2019. It will have 150 rooms, bringing the resort total to more than 2,200 rooms. In Denmark, Djurs Sommerland has created a new Wild Asia

theme area, which is also home to its newest ride, Tigeren (more on this later). In Italy, the new exciting season of Gardaland Resort began with

the inauguration of the ‘Year of Magic’, a year full of new additions, entirely dedicated to the world of magic. From new rides such as Enchanted forest and the magic theming of Sequoia Magic Loop to the new Magic Elements show, from unique events like Magic Spring to the Park’s spectacular setups and the grand opening on 31st May of the highly anticipated Gardaland Magic Hotel. 2019 is a busy year for the park.

Gardaland Year of Magic 20

NEW RIDES AND ATTRACTIONS Accessible through a magic mine, Gardaland Resort’s Enchanted Forest is a walk-through ride, an interactive path dedicated to families who partake in an extraordinary experience inside a magic world, among magic plants and giant flowers, imposing trees, big mushrooms
