“Colombia is becoming one of the leading countries in terms


of amusement parks and tourism in Latin America. If we compare ourselves with the most important countries in the region, which are Mexico and Brazil, we occupy the third place in the number of visitors to the parks”, explained Ángela Díaz, executive director of the Colombian Association of Attractions and Amusement Parks, (ACOLAP). Díaz pointed out that while in 2017 the sector experienced great


difficulties due to the country's economic recession; in 2018, the goals for the number of visitors in almost all the parks in Colombia were achieved, which allowed for the reactivation of investments, as well as the programs for the renewal and incorporation of equipment. The director of ACOLAP reported that the four most important


parks in the country: Parque del Café, Salitre Mágico, Mundo Aventura and Piscilago, opened new areas, with an investment of more than 20 million dollars and several of them are planning to incorporate at least one new attraction per year in the future. He stressed that this favourable outlook is mainly due to the


exemption of taxes for the import of equipment that is not produced in the country. He also stressed the new tax conditions for the amusement park industry based on the Financing Law, which will see approved in December 2018, according to companies in the sector have a significant reduction in the income tax for new construction projects or infrastructure remodelling. America, with more than one million 200 thousand visitors per year. Psicilago has become the most committed aquatic centre in terms


of development, since each year it invests at least three million dollars and inaugurates at least one new attraction. In the last two years, the complex has inaugurated its new attractions: Pisciuracanes, Mega Tobogán and the most recent one, Onda Extrema, with investments in the order of 19 million dollars. It is followed by Mundo Aventura, which receives 1.2 million


people, and Salitre Mágico and the National Coffee Park which serve one million guests per year each.


ARGENTINA Argentina has had a lag in the growth of both new attractions and amusement parks. The Argentine Association of Parks and Attractions (AAPA), has


40 members, including operators and manufacturers representing about 150 locations, including theme parks and rides, water parks, oceanariums, bioparks and family entertainment centres. For the directors of AAPA, the country still faces the challenge


of integrating the parks and attractions industry into the country's tourism development. Recently, the secretary of the organisation, Daniel Catzman, said:


“Our goal is for the industry to improve, we are very important for tourist destinations because where there is a park people stay one more day, eat and spend on merchandising, without forgetting that we are a great source of job creation.”
