here are two new amusement parks and at least eight new waterparks opening on the continent, and dozens of other rides and attractions planned for 2019. According to the


Roller Coaster Data Base, worldwide there are 170 roller coasters scheduled to open in 2019. North America will see 37 of these, four less than last year. Compiled from reports, press releases, and interviews, here is what’s planned to open this year in North America. Paul Ruben reports


NEW PARKS When the $5 billion American Dream Meadowlands, a retail and entertainment complex, opens in East Rutherford, New Jersey, it will feature three new parks. There will be an eight-acre indoor Nickelodeon Universe theme park, DreamWorks water park, and KidZania, the interactive entertainment destinations for kids. The complex will also contain an observation wheel, an indoor ice rink, concert hall, indoor ski slope, 18-hole miniature golf course, dine-in 4D movie theatre, Lucky Strike bowling alley, Legoland Discovery Centre, and SeaLife Aquarium.

shoppping mall, Québec City, Québec, Canada, has opened its doors and welcome its first visitors. The revamped park features 14 new attractions and North America’s first spoke-less Ferris wheel. Kartrite Hotel & Indoor Waterpark is rising on the Resorts


World Catskills campus located in the Town of Thompson, New York. Set to open in early 2019, The Kartrite will feature two acres (0.8 hectares) of four-season indoor waterpark space and a luxury hotel with 324 guest suites. A 350-room Great Wolf Lodge is under construction on an 18


acre site outside Scottsdale, Arizona. Great Wolf Lodge Arizona is due to open by year-end 2019, becoming the company’s 18th resort in North America. One of the highlights is an 85,000 square foot (7,897 sq m) indoor waterpark featuring a variety of body slides, tube slides, and raft rides from WhiteWater West, activity pools and splash areas. Neuman Pools will oversee the construction of both the indoor water park and outdoor pool areas. Developers recently announced plans for a $2 billion
