I’ve just returned from visiting our old friend, the Fira Barcelona, having been moonlighting for another industry (it turns out Fira Barcelona wasn’t just built to accommodate us and ICE! VERY disappointing).
It was weird being in such familiar territory but for a different sector; I searched and searched but couldn’t find a single marzipan chocolate (you know what I’m talking about – don’t pretend you don’t eat dozens of them every ICE!)
The one thing that was immediately apparent was just how huge ICE has become. I kept walking into walls where I felt the show should continue, only to find this particular industry had already run out of humans. We take up SO much space.
It’s only when you go to a different industry’s trade show that you realise just how brilliantly big our world is.
Before you know it, it’ll be Christmas (I know – don’t even think about it!) and then it’ll be time for ICE again. I can’t wait to see my old chum, “Fira” again in a few months (it’s what I call him when I stroke the big words outside). And yes, people stare.
However, before all that guff, we have G2E and Las Vegas to look forward to. I mean… I don’t – I’m not going this year – but you guys all have a lovely time without me. I’ll be back home in the cold, wet UK wondering what the time is ‘over there’ and if you’ve bumped into Mr T, Tom Hanks or one of those yellow school busses they have. I’m pretty sure that’s America summed up in one sentence.
Anyway, we’ve got this one final G2E preview issue to go, and then it’s plain sailing until the end of 2025.
