a sido un mes de sube y baja para la industria del Juego en Latinoamerica. Si por un lado nos viene el reporte sobre el auge de la industria en República Dominicana, donde el paraíso de Punta Cana es un imán para quienes buscan calidad y variedad en su viaje de relax, por otro lado, Ecuador sufre un revés en su referéndum para aprobar la reapertura de casinos. Ambos reportes líneas abajo.
En lo que se refiere al orden y legalidad en las operaciones de los nuevos segmentos de las apuestas deportivas y el juego online, Perú acaba de pasar la ley con cárcel para quienes comentan fraude deportivo – ver reporte abajo – mientras que Brasil parece ponerse las pilas y atacar ahí donde es el centro nervioso de la ilegalidad en el juego y apuestas remotas, el sector financiero. Lo venimos diciendo desde la tesis doctoral, cuando argumentamos que, para terminar con la evasión de impuestos y el lavado de activos, los países deben apuntarle al corazón de las instituciones financieras, sean bancos, seguros, fondos buitres, o como les llamen, aquellos vehículos que se prestan el robo desmedido y desmedro económico de las naciones, del primer y último mundo.
Ahora, en Brasil, el gobierno ha comenzado a construir un sistema de información sobre la cual los bancos y las fintechs, del tamaño que sean, para prestar sus servicios al sector de las Bets, cuando estos vehículos de transferencia de dinero no se encuentren autorizados por el Banco Central, así estén bajo el control de la Secretaría de Premios y Apuestas (SPA) del Ministerio de Hacienda, porque en efecto, tales vehículos laos usan mayormente los operadores de sitios de Bets ilegales. Seguiremos reportando. Y así llegamos a preparar maletas para nuestra travesía a la meca del juego, el contingente latinoamericano pondrá su buena marca en el G2E 2025. ¡Allá nos vemos!

t has been a month of ups and downs for the gaming industry in Latin America. If on the one hand we report on Dominican Republic’s industry boom, where the Punta Cana paradise is a magnet for those looking for quality and variety on their vacations, on the other hand, Ecuador has suffered a setback in its referendum to approve the reopening of casinos. Both reports, below.
As far as order and legality of operations of the new segments of sports betting and online gambling, Peru has just passed a law with jail time for those who commit sports fraud – see report below – while Brazil seems to get its act together and attack the nerve center of illegality in gambling and remote betting - the financial sector.
We have been saying this since those far days of our doctoral thesis, when we argued that, in order to put an end to tax evasion and money laundering, countries must aim at the heart of the financial institutions, be they banks, insurance companies, trust funds, or whatever they call themselves, as they are vehicles that lend themselves to blatant theft and the economic detriment of nations, be they of the first or the last world. Now, in Brazil, the government has begun to build an information system on which banks and fintechs, of whatever size that provide their services to the Bets sector by means of money transfer vehicles, must be authorized by the Central Bank, even if they are supervised by Bets regulators, the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA) of the Ministry of Finance. This is because in fact such vehicles are mostly used by the operators of illegal betting sites. We will continue reporting on this very sensitive issue.
And so, we get to prepare our bags for our journey to the mecca of gambling, as the Latin American contingent aims, once again, to make its good mark on G2E 2025. See you all, there!
