KGM GAMING/NANOLUMENS

Mohegan Sun selects in-house progressive

KGM Gaming oversaw the installation of NanoLumens custom signage to take Mohegan Sun’s in-house progressive jackpot to the next level.

those with a product that could meet the radius and size of what they had existing but also add the functionaltiy to run video and content from the marketing and advertising side.

CI: This is solely in the Uncasville, Connecticut casino – what sort of size is the casino?

JM: It’s a very large casino, probably close to 4,000 slot machines.

CI: How many toppers did you put in? JM: There were six in total.

CI: With 4,000 slots, what sort of impact does that have?

JM: These six signs house the in-house progressive, an in-house bank game that increases as games are played and there’s a hit frequently attached to that. These in-house progressives have been there since opening and are very well known by the customers and the meters were not even properly displaying the progressive jackpot. One of the reasons they wanted to replace them was just

asino International spoke with KGM’s Jack McNamara, Vice President Operations, about the company’s role in replacing the existing jackpot toppers. This surprisingly complex operation involved retaining aspects of the

original setup, including animatronic wolves. For such a custom screen requirement, it’s no surprise that NanoLumens were KGM’s choice.

Casino International: What does KGM Gaming do?

Jack McNamara: KGM is a supplier to the casino industry. Four main components – we distribute slot machines and electronic table games, plus we distribute and manufacture signage, seating, and slot bases.

CI: Are you a distributor for NanoLumens?

JM: Not contractually, but they are a vendor of ours when that special need arises; so when Mohegan Sun contacted us to look at a solution to replace the old RGB media, they are not supported any more and the graphics are low end, showing only numbers, no video; they came to us to replace

to get that jackpot actually visible; they were breaking down often and they used the opportunity to replace them to grab the new technology and be able to support video and so forth.

The other unique thing is that Mohegan Sun has these

animated wolves on top of a rock structure as part of the signage; they’re very responsive and sense your movement if you walk by, the wolf will turn its head and blink or move its tail; they’ve spent a lot of money on the signage, so we wanted to make sure they got their money’s worth with that, so the signage below did what it was supposed to do. When you walk through the casino and see them for the

first time they’re very realistic in person. CI: Why go with NanoLumens in particular for this?

JM: The key was, with this installation and why we went with NanoLumens, some of the other manufacturers have a pre-set radius or curved panel that can’t be customised, but Nanolumens were able to customise the radius so we could fit and match what was in the field without disturbing the structure, the animatronics, any of the pieces that were working together as a whole.
