STATESIDE

With construction running overtime, the debt-ridden

project has doubled from earlier estimated costs. How many tribal gaming venues now won’t benefit? If California failed, what about the other 49 states? Imagine the costs for retrofitting every multi-billion and smaller property. Imagine every casino limiting the beef and meats served in its restaurants. What about the total costs of the required job, wages and financial benefits for every U.S. gaming company? No one can calculate a figure and AOC dismisses those details in favor of “morality.” While these are lofty goals, these provisions will certainly

devastate almost every American gaming company, supplier and even their customers. What about the international markets’ relationships with U.S. companies? How are African, Asian, Australian, European, Latin American and Middle Eastern companies – to name a few – supposed to travel to, sell to and conduct business with America? Will ocean voyages be the “new” way after 60 years of jet travel? American casinos have done an amazing job of tailoring

games and promotions for international guests. What will be their focus should this agenda prevail and international customers don’t show?

Wouldn’t it be refreshing if American gaming could

actually embrace Washington’s actions instead of regularly fighting them? Remember the sports betting battles and years of efforts to educate Congress on numerous issues. By the way, AOC and local associates were key to Amazon’s

abrupt canceling of its new proposed New York headquarters that would bring 25,000 jobs – averaging $150,000 – with them. For $3 billion in tax incentives, Amazon’s construction would mean new infrastructure, businesses and opportunities, plus an estimated $30 billion in revenues over time. But, AOC and her cronies “knew” better. She said, “Today

was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world.”

Imagine how many new tourists and new gamblers would visit New York to enjoy so much renovation and gentrification. What a “smart” move from these legislators. Would Alexander Hamilton still support the possible

pervasive reach of today’s federal government? I think not. Maybe he and Jefferson could even become friends.
