Thomas Crapper fireclay bathroom basins T

he casting process for fireclay sinks involves precision and craftsmanship to create Thomas Crapper’s durable, beautiful bathroom basins. First, a mixture of clay, minerals, and water is prepared to form a mixture called slip. The slip is then poured into a mould, which is specific to the shape of basin required. The clay slip is then left to dry in the plaster mould. Once dry, the mould is removed, revealing the

raw basin or sink shape. Skilled artisans meticulously hand-finish the sink’s surface, smoothing out imperfections and adding intricate details. This casting process ensures the production of high-quality fireclay sinks known for their durability and timeless beauty.

After the casting process, fireclay sinks undergo a precise glazing process to enhance their appearance and functionality. This glaze not only

adds a lustrous sheen; it also provides a protective barrier against stains, scratches, and heat. The glaze is carefully formulated to ensure durability and resistance to everyday wear and tear. Once it has been glazed, the sink is then fired in a kiln at over 1100 degrees. This strengthens the clay and activates the glaze to create its characteristic glossy finish. The glazing and firing process gives fireclay sinks their signature glossy and sleek finish, making them both functional and visually appealing additions to any home.. After firing, each sink is carefully inspected for any defects or imperfections. Skilled operatives check for uniformity, smoothness, and structural integrity. They ensure that the products meet stringent quality standards, with no cracks, uneven surfaces, or glaze defects. This s quality checking process guarantees that only flawless fireclay sinks and basins reach the market, providing customers with beautiful, reliable and long-lasting products. Once approved, the sinks are carefully packed, protecting them from potential damage during transit.
