Zaneti Furniture P

aul Jacobs, Managing Director at Zaneti, talks about the increasing demand for bathroom furniture that suits the traditionally small British bathroom Bathrooms in the UK are still – and increasingly – small spaces, measuring just 2m x 2m on average. House sizes in general have been declining every decade since the 1950s and multigeneration living is on the rise, due in part to the cost of living. Many home renovations centre around the desire for more than one bathroom to serve the whole family, thus resulting in even more compact spaces being designed.

“Recently we’ve seen a large demand for more compact items in the bathroom furniture sector,” explains Paul Jacobs. “We have invested in new basin moulds and a broader range of slimline fitted furniture, such as our new Compact collection, to accommodate the demand.”

This collection – along with Series and Aspect – offers vanity units with reduced depths, starting at 220mm. Aspect includes a 300mm depth Column Unit and 255mm depth P-Shaped Unit, accommodating a built-in basin and WC. Consumers are increasingly opting for vanity units with built-in or sit-on basins to maximise on

storage – something that the once-popular pedestal basin can’t provide.

When planning a compact bathroom, really think about optimising the space. “It’s no good choosing a really minimal aesthetic, when we all know in reality the space will soon be cluttered with toiletries,” acknowledges Paul. “Go back to basics and consider where a toothbrush will sit, where additional toilet rolls will go, and where towels will be hung.”

You can have style and function in a compact bathroom. “Our Zaneti ranges offer both,” says Paul. “Soho is another fantastic example. The Cloaks Unit has a depth of 222mm, but the fluted door front and perfect-fit basin offer an on-trend, statement look. The Column Unit has a width of 297mm and a depth of 235mm, making it perfect for enhancing storage opportunities in awkward spaces. They’re both available in Henley Blue, Natural Beige and – our bestseller – Natural Oak.” Ultimately, compact bathroom design is about so much more than finding a solution. “When you’re dealing with a compact product, you often see manufacturers forgetting that these products still need the detail and style that a much larger product has,” explains Paul. “They can be viewed as an afterthought or purely as a solution, but in reality more and more people are fighting for space and still want to create an exciting, visually- appealing space.”
