Sign Maker Advice Micro squeegees and tuck tools
In this latest column from Paul Hughes, owner of Sign Making Tools, he talks about how vehicle wrapping has developed and the tools that have been designed to help.
Micro squeegees and tuck tools
A
s vehicle wrapping has developed so has the plethora of tools designed
to facilitate its application. One area that has seen much
innovation is micro squeegees and tuck tools, these tools are all important for installing vinyl along window gaskets and hard to reach areas making installation both efficient and producing a quality finish. The vehicle wrap market is split into
two main categories, one being what I call domestic wraps, this being mainly cars and is a personnel purchase. This market tends to look for a
higher level of finish to achieve this finish many parts and trims are removed from the vehicle to gain better access for fitting vinyl films. This better access lessens the usefulness of the micro squeegee and tuck tools, but

they can still be invaluable.
Commercial vehicle wrapping Where micro squeegees and tuck tools come in to its own is the second group of vehicle wraps, the commercial wrap. The commercial wrap is normally on a
commercial vehicle, van or lorry and is a business purchase for branding. Not to say that a commercial wrap
should be a lower quality job, but it is normally done to a budget and time is money as they say. Stripping a commercial vehicle takes time and many companies are not looking for the same level of detail that a domestic customer is. This is where our micro squeegees
and tuck tools come in to their own giving us an efficient way to work round part that we have not removed. Micro squeegees and tuck tools
come in all shapes and sizes, all have been designed to solve a specific problem area for fitting vinyl too. There is a round, square, curved,
and pointed one all with different rolls to play. One of the best options is one of the multi packs of these tools, you are sure to find something that will work to get that vinyl into the side of that light fitting or under that trim. You will soon develop your favoured
tool, but I can guarantee you will use that one obscure tool at some point. Then and only then will you realise its worth, every day is a school day. The next trick is to use two tools
in tandem, one lifting a gasket one moving the film into place. I can guarantee that with time micro
squeegees and tuck tools will make your wraps more efficient save both time and money.
