Mutoh unveils new inks and eco-solvent printer


M


utoh Europe has announced the European introduction of the


XpertJet 1681SR Pro, a next- generation 64in (1,625mm) eco-solvent roll-to-roll printer developed for professional sign and display production. At the heart of the printer is the AccuFine HD Pro print head – a single- head piezo system with 3,200 nozzles across eight channels – engineered for accurate droplet placement and detailed image reproduction, along with a print speed of up to 17m sq/hr, a three-way heater system.


The printer also has practical features


such as a front-access ink system and internal LED lighting improve operator usability during set-up and continuous runs. In Europe, the XpertJet 1681SR Pro is supplied with MUTOH genuine


MS51 eco-solvent inks in an eight-colour configuration: CMYK, along with light cyan, light magenta, orange and red. MS51 inks are positioned for both indoor and outdoor applications and include UL GREENGUARD Gold certification, with additional recognised low-emission references used in the European market.

for its longstanding commitment to sustainability and is one of only 36 organisations in the UK to be recognised this year. The King’s Award for Enterprise for


Sustainable Development is awarded for commercially successful products, services and management that benefit the environment, society and the economy. Meteor Inkjet is advancing the implementation of inkjet technology into print and production industries


worldwide, replacing less sustainable methods and enabling shorter production runs with zero overproduction. Clive Ayling, managing director for Meteor Inkjet, said: “This recognition reflects the journey we’ve been on to embed sustainability into every part of our business. “While we’re proud of the progress


we’ve made, we see this as just the beginning and remain focused on continuous sustainable development.” The King’s Awards for Enterprise recognises outstanding UK businesses. The Award programme, now in its 60th year, is the most prestigious business award in the country. This is the second


time Meteor Inkjet has been honoured with this accolade, having received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2019 for its outstanding achievements in international trade.

ESPA has found 53% of environmental claims are vague or misleading, having launched a new sustainability guide aimed at helping print businesses avoid greenwashing. The guide, Understanding and Avoiding Greenwash, provides practical advice on making clear, accurate and evidence-based sustainability claims. It comes as pressure grows from


both regulators and customers for greater transparency around environmental impact.

while 40% lack supporting evidence. It also warns that even technically true claims can be considered deceptive if they omit key information. FESPA says the print sector faces particular risks when using terms such as “eco-friendly” or “biodegradable” without proper substantiation. The guide encourages businesses to adopt a full lifecycle approach, considering the environmental impact of products from production through to disposal.


With new UK and EU regulations on


the horizon, FESPA says companies must ensure claims are clear, verifiable and supported by data to avoid reputational and legal risks.
