Macerator overcomes cloakroom challenge
An installer has been able to overcome the challenge of creating a downstairs cloakroom in a tight space using Saniflo’s Sanicompact. Two previous contractors had deemed the job impossible, but Lee Hammond of Hammond & Holmes Kitchens & Bathrooms in Eccleston used his problem-solving skills and realised that a Saniflo macerator pump could be the solution. The compact, cistern-
less Sanicompact unit allowed him to install the toilet and basin without the need for gravity drainage, and the small footprint of the unit enabled additional storage to be added under the stairs. This compact solution from Saniflo has an integrated macerator and also takes the waste from a basin, making it a great cloakroom solution. The small footprint of the unit, along with its modern looks and ‘exceptionally’ efficient and quiet operation ensures it is practical, yet unobtrusive. Lee found the Sanicompact so simple to install that he’s
since recommended Saniflo solutions to other customers. ◼

Clearing the air in modern homes
Lovell Homes has integrated Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon Sentinel Kinetic Cooker Hood MVHR and Lo-Carbon NBR dMEV C into its Tomorrow Home project in County Durham. This initiative aims to test alternative electric heating systems and assess sustainable technologies, particularly in ventilation. In the project, two identical
three-bedroom homes were constructed. One home features the Sentinel Kinetic Cooker
Hood, while the other is equipped with the NBR dMEV C. Both products were chosen for their effectiveness in enhancing indoor air quality and meeting modern building regulations. Data collected over the
project’s 12-month duration will help evaluate the performance of these ventilation technologies, informing future designs to meet forthcoming regulations. The NBR dMEV C provides
efficient ventilation with low sound levels and effective airflow. The Kinetic Cooker Hood combines heat recovery and cooking ventilation, featuring a fire damper, humidity sensor, and summer bypass. ◼

Boiler upgrade delivers multiple benefits
When Mulalley and Co needed to update the existing boilers at its main office in Essex, a new Wessex ModuMax mk3 system from Hamworthy Heating was installed to help maximise space at Teresa Gavin House. With its previous floor standing system taking up
much of the plant room floor, Hamworthy proposed a system using two WessexModuMax mk3 floor- standing, vertically stacked modules with a total power outlet of 464kW, a new plate heat exchanger and a Chesil pressurisation unit. In line with updates to the existing Building Regulations Part L, a new boiler flue was also fitted as part of the new installation. Teresa Gavin House now benefits from increased floor space and improved access to its plant room. Featuring a stainless-steel design for added protection against corrosion, Mulalley and Co can also expect to benefit from cost savings on future service and maintenance intervals. ◼

Products from AKW have transformed a bathroom for a family in Leicester to create an accessible and modern space suitable for multi- generational use. The family needed a solution to accommodate the decreased mobility of an elderly member, which posed challenges with the existing bath and shower setup. The decision was made to take out the bath from the upstairs
bathroom and put in a low level access showering solution. The need was to make the space more accessible, without it looking institutional. However the bathroom had only recently been refurbished, so the solution had to be in keeping with the home’s modern décor, whilst meeting the needs of the extended family. The transformation involved installing a full-length low-level access shower tray, a rain head shower, and a Scandinavian-style shower seat. Additionally, sleek grab rails were incorporated to enhance safety without compromising aesthetics. The renovation was completed in two days, utilising AKW’s Origins
Wallboard to cover partially tiled areas, which provided structural support for the shower seat and grab rails. An AKW Onyx shower tray was installed over the existing tiles, allowing for a minimal step into the shower. A chrome-finished AKW Larenco Sliding Door Enclosure and an AKW Arka Cool Touch mixer shower were also added, completing the modern look. ◼
