Modern radiators are versatile, adapting to low temperature heating systems and off ering unique aesthetics, ensuring their continued relevance – so says Chris Walley from Zehnder Group UK.

radiators maintain their responsiveness to changing heating needs, outperforming alternative heating methods. They continue to deliver effi cient, adjustable comfort for all living spaces. But gone are the days when

T
he trend towards more effi cient low water temperature heating systems has sparked discussions
about the future of radiators – for instance, their compatibility with heat pumps as a heat source. But the truth, and it’s an uplifting one, is that radiators are far from being overshadowed in these scenarios. In fact, they’re proving to be steadfast contenders.
The right stuff Over the years, mainland Europe has operated with lower system temperatures compared to the UK, and most radiators perform exceptionally well with reduced fl ow and return temperatures. While heat outputs might
decrease as a result, the logical expectation is that heat losses from buildings would similarly diminish due to improved insulation and better
radiators were seen as mere functional devices to keep rooms warm. Modern radiators are now designed to be more than just heat emitters – they’re a style statement too. While the basic pressed steel
panel remains the mainstay low- cost radiator, where do you turn if your customer wants something diff erent to a standard radiator – or even something bespoke for a tricky sized space?
Endless opportunities Installers should be embracing the modern radiator and looking to provide the right heating solution for the right application – be it the type of system its going into (central heating, fully electric or dual energy) or the space it needs to fi ll. This is all achievable and within
reach through clever design and the right materials. Modern radiators can be anything a customer wants them to be – from featuring mirrors, hooks, and additional rails, to even mimicking works of art on the walls or forming part of the house make-up like a stair balustrade. on the wall like works of art. The Zehnder Arteplano, for example, from the Zehnder Studio Collection can be installed horizontally or vertically to provide heat output for the space required, while becoming a centrepiece in the room. The Arteplano’s heating tubes are concealed behind a beautiful metal front plate. They can be ordered as a colour to pop or blend into the room, or stand out as a unique work of art in brass or copper fi nishes – each model is individually etched so each one is unique. Then there’s the classic multi-
column. These are the perfect fusion of traditional and modern technology – off ering comfortable warmth, effi ciency and timeless design since the 1930s.
Flexible by nature Today, however, the modern multi-column boasts unique manufacturing features, such as innovative, precise laser welding methods to produce sectional radiators – and this is setting new standards for quality and technology in terms of precision, quality and functionality. The sections within them can
be added or removed during manufacturing, allowing for length adjustments, while tubes can be manufactured to required heights, even embracing curves, which opens unlimited possibilities for custom shapes and sizes. This fl exibility not only ensures a perfect fi t but also adds a distinctive touch to a space.
Setting the trend At Zehnder we off er a made to measure and engineered to order range that allows installers to specify the precise dimensions of a radiator, providing a solution for unique spaces. This is essential for homes with awkward or uniquely styled rooms, off ering bespoke design options and countless fi t opportunities – from angled or curved radiators to room dividers and even stair rails. These radiators don’t just follow

the trend – they set it. Their seamless integration with low temperature systems or simple electric plug-ins, infi nite designs and effi ciency in delivering warmth while conserving energy, establish them as essential elements in any climate solution, leading us toward a future that is sustainable, good looking and invitingly snug. ◼
