CPD tackles domestic water service challenges
The latest Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course approved by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) from Altecnic is ‘Modern Solutions for Domestic Water Services’, now available on the free digital training platform, Altecnic Academy. Designed to address the
international teacher who joined the company to pursue her passion for helping homes reach net zero in an affordable and way. “The long-term goal is to offer people with no prior experience, or
Stepping up gas boiler courses
The government’s delay to banning new gas boiler installations has encouraged the Energy Training Centre at Evesham New College to ramp up its courses for gas engineers. The purpose-built training facility, part of the WCG college group, focuses on gas, electric, plumbing, heating, and renewable energy. It primarily serves small local businesses across the West Midlands region. With the gas boiler ban deadline
delayed until at least 2035, the centre says it’s vital to continue developing gas engineering skills. It plans to run multiple training
those at the start of their career, high-quality training so they too can join the Aira family and much-needed clean energy revolution,” says Georgia. ◼

A new course from Elmhurst Energy is set to deliver vital skills in measured energy performance to improve heat pump specification accuracy and increase consumer uptake. The Measured Energy Performance (MEP) competency scheme is focused on skills relating to low-carbon heating solutions. Teaching building heat loss measurement and holistic building performance evaluation, the course will upskill energy efficiency professionals to use MEP as part of the heat pump sizing and specification process. Its results help to improve understanding about how the low carbon heating solution is likely to perform in a specific home.
Hands-on experience
Luton is the site of Hamworthy Heating’s new Expert Academy training facility. The £1 million, 16,000ft2 centre is designed to serve heating engineers across southern and central England. The new Luton centre offers a range of free, flexible
training courses covering commercial gas boilers, heating controls, and the latest low-carbon technologies like air source heat pumps. Participants will have hands-on experience with Hamworthy’s product range, including the new Tyneham monobloc heat pumps. Located just off the M1, the purpose-built facility
Supporting HVAC skills
Carrier has opened a new training academy at its Bracknell service and rentals depot. The facility offers hands-on experience with Carrier’s commercial products, including heat pumps, chillers and air handling units. Trainees can also learn skills in service repairs, upgrades and maintenance. Over the coming months, Carrier will develop a training
programme focused on the adoption of new refrigerants, including R290, and invite customers and contract partners to experience exclusive training days at the new facility, further enhancing their awareness and understanding of Carrier’s HVAC solutions. The training academy will also be utilised for Carrier’s CIBSE-approved CPD training courses to support HVAC professionals. ◼

challenges of efficiently meeting operational and regulatory requirements for water systems in high-rise buildings, the CPD covers a range of topics. These include the complexities of water distribution, pressure management regulations, effective management methods, the role of key components like pressure-reducing valves, and
best practices for installation and maintenance. The course also explores the latest innovative solutions to help designers and installers meet these challenges. This new CPD course adds to
the company’s existing offering of professional development resources. Altecnic Academy also hosts nine other CIBSE- approved CPD courses covering various topics such as, ‘System design for efficiency using electronic intelligent HIUs’ and ‘Legionella considerations when reactivating buildings’. The Academy is designed to provide a comprehensive platform for industry professionals to expand their knowledge and skills. ◼

Elmhurst believes this insight will boost consumer confidence in heat pumps and support manufacturers, installers and housebuilders with increasing heat pump marketplace demand. The course delivers
governance and a framework for MEP against future standards and government requirements. It will focus on upskilling professionals to measure thermal performance and energy performance
of homes, teaching a method for measuring heat transfer coefficient (HTC). It will also explore other areas of building energy performance measurement to determine specific areas of heat loss in a home, such as by ventilation and infiltration assessment through airtightness testing, as well as u-value measurement. ◼

Safe working at height
GTEC has introduced a new one-day Working at Heights for Solar PV System Installations course. The training is designed for operatives involved in the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on domestic or low-angle commercial rooftops. The curriculum covers essential safety topics,
including personal fall protection, use of safety harnesses and energy-absorbing lanyards, ladder safety, scaffolding, and managing risks around skylights. Practical skills training, such as proper harness fitting and safe ladder climbing techniques, are also included. The course is currently available at GTEC’s training
facility in Hawes, North Yorkshire, and will be expanded to other GTEC-approved centers in the coming months. The new offering complements GTEC’s existing solar PV installer training programs. ◼
