The Bicycle Association and Novuna share Consumer Finance Insights

he Bicycle Association and Novuna have teamed up to offer insights into the world of consumer finance, while also understanding and helping IBDs with their challenges
in this area. Novuna first partnered with the Bicycle Association back in 2023 to bring a new offering to the bicycle market, and now has over 40 organisations transacting regular bike business. Novuna runs regular surveys amongst those consumers who have taken out finance. Some of the key findings indicate how this method of sale can help support additional unit volumes, as well as higher basket spend. For example, their latest survey, based on 70,000 consumers over 12 months, examined the impact of flexible finance options on checkout conversion and showed that retailers who don’t offer finance may be missing out on some sales, as well as higher average selling prices.

0% VS INTEREST BEARING PRODUCTS Looking deeper, consumer preferences around 0% vs interest-bearing products should not be ignored. Interest-bearing finance is a particularly strong driver due to its ability to make expensive items more affordable, with 73% of customers saying they wouldn’t have purchased if finance wasn’t available. Comparatively, that figure stands at 54% for interest-free. This suggests that giving your
consumers more choices may help with affordability. Did your spend increase due to the availability of finance?
BASKET SPEND CAN INCREASE WITH FINANCE The Novuna survey found that almost 3 in 5 interest-free (and 2 in 5 interest-bearing customers) said they spent more due to the availability of the finance option.
