big interview

“Craft and artisan bakers have always been great at adapting to what their customers want and need”

We ensure through regular mailings and the CBA website that our members are kept up to date with issues that affect the industry and our members and where necessary take action on their behalf. For example, at the start of the energy pricing crisis we liaised with the BIES (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) for some guaranteed long-term support for our members to ensure their businesses can continue to operate without redundancies or worse – a situation we continue to monitor.

What can we expect at the CBA Business Day? Why is it an important event in the bakery calendar? We are really looking forward to welcoming members and industry supporters to our first in person event in over a year! The Business Day, which is in London on June 14th, has the theme of ‘Future Proofing Your Business’ and promises to be a dynamic and engaging event which will empower bakers to future proof their business. There is a varied programme including presentations from industry experts on key

topics, such as consumer attitudes to craft bakery, Primary Authority Legislation, and how to make the media work for your business. And in true CBA style, the event finishes with dinner and entertainment.

The day begins with the CBA AGM, when National President Neil Woods will step down from his role and President Elect Patrick Wilkins will be installed as National President 2023/24 and welcomed into his new position. Speakers for the Business Day itself include Howard Saunders, Retail Futurist speaker, Amy North, Editor of British Baker, a representative from BIES and more, who will all share their insights, expertise and advice to help businesses prepare for the year ahead. We also have lots of Industry Supporters attending and exhibiting a wide range of products and services.

Bakers are also invited to showcase their expertise by entering a range of products into a new competition, which will be judged by experts on the day, with the results announced during the evening. Products will be judged within categories including Sourdough, Vegan Bakery, Innovation and more.

During the day we will also be celebrating some of the many achievements of our members through the CBA Member of the Year and Champion Baker.

Last but not least the event offers all delegates the opportunity to catch up with friends new and old and talk through challenges and wins that are facing. They will also be able to learn more out what the CBA has been up to over the past year and our aims for the next 12 months by attending the AGM.
