Scottish Baker of the Year 2023/24 judges table Bakery customers throughout Scotland continue to have their say in the Scottish Baker of the Year Customer Choice category
T
his years’ crop of entries included nearly 650 ‘brilliant bakes’ from 70 bakers with accolades on offer for the best scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits as well as French and Danish style
pastries and Free-from bread, biscuits and cakes. And of course, the ultimate prize will be to be crowned Scottish Baker of the Year.
“Every day in Scotland we can enjoy a buttery for
breakfast, a sandwich made from a fresh loaf for lunch, afternoon tea with mouth-watering sweet treats and a fresh piping hot pie for dinner. But the bakers who carefully make the pies, scones, loaves, savouries, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits sold in Scotland every day are the hidden gem of our economy and of our culture,” says Alasdair Smith of Scottish Bakers who organise the competition “and we are delighted to give Scottish bakers the chance to shine and showcase their skills.” Professional judging might now be completed, but customer voting for the Scottish Baker of the Year “Customer Choice” awards is still open until 5th April. Shoppers simply vote for their favourite bakery and from these we will identify a “Customer Choice” winner in each of the four business categories; Craft Baker, Retail Craft Baker, Wholesale Baker and Bakery Café. Scottish Bakers President, Ian McGhee said: “We are delighted to give the public a say with our Customer Choice awards. It’s a great opportunity for our members to reach out to their customers and communities and get people talking about great, traditional Scottish baking. It’s really easy to vote too, ask your bakery for their unique QR code to scan, or a voting form in store now. Alternatively, log on to the competition website
www.bakeroftheyear. scot to vote. QR codes and voting forms are available in-store at all participating bakeries or shoppers can vote online at www.
