Cross-team collaboration & education drives bakery equipment attrition rates down Bakers Basco,

the

membership scheme set up by

Allied

Bakeries, Fine Lady Bakeries,

Frank

Roberts & Sons, Hovis and Warburtons to manage an industry wide bakery equipment solution, has reported

marked improvements in

attrition rates across its bread baskets and dollies, owing to better cross- team collaboration and education with bakery stakeholders. The latest statistics show that the attrition rate for baskets has fallen 0.82%

year-on-year by the end of

February 2023, while the attrition rate for its dolly equipment has improved by 1.80%. At the same time, calls to the Bakers Basco helpline to report backlogs of all managed equipment have reduced 58% year-on-year; 53% for Omega baskets specifically. Paul Empson, general manager at Bakers Basco, improvements

Cherrytree Bakery expands with £1m investment

Cherrytree Bakery

explains that these have

across the board as a result of more streamlined collaboration between its operations and investigations teams. It’s also the result of better education initiatives with key

players in the

bakery supply chain to ensure that they understand what to do with equipment and how to report any issues. Regular equipment audits and driver briefings, for example, take place regularly across all shareholders’ sites to raise awareness of Bakers Basco’s work from both an operational and recovery perspective. By engaging directly with the drivers, who often work on different shifts and different routes from one day to the next, the effort is intended to encourage drivers to step up and help support the Bakers Basco’s operations and recovery process.

10 Kennedy’s Bakery Production April/May 2023 will be

expanding into a state-of-the art facility following the acquisition of a 12,000 sq ft building next to its headquarters. The increased capacity will allow

Burnley-based Cherrytree to expand its tray bake offer, meet additional demand and strike deals in new markets. Over recent months the business has won a series of new contracts

with major national retailers and has ambitions to double its turnover in the next three years to £50million. Cherrytree Bakery MD Mark Beaumont said: “We are delighted to have

completed the deal to buy the facility. It’s right next door to our existing bakery — so the location is perfect. “The business has enjoyed a number of years of successful growth and demand continues to be high, so this is a logical step forward. This £1million investment demonstrates our ambitions to grow the business significantly and this expansion will give us the perfect platform. “We have a strong order book, enjoy great client relationships, and have significant demand for our range. Companies work with us because they know that we produce exceptional products, and this is down to attention to detail and teamwork.” Earlier this year Cherrytree Bakery ran a major recruitment drive for 50

new staff after introducing a new weekend shift in order to meet growing demand. It will be recruiting again once the new facility is up and running.

Chevler launches new rainbow range of cases and wraps

Chevler, a UK manufacturer of baking cases and tulip muffin wraps, and a major producer of printed greaseproof paper has launched an exciting new range of Rainbow cupcake cases and tulip muffin wraps. Chevler’s Director of Sales and Marketing Garry Parker said: “This is a very significant move for the business because up until now we have only been able to manufacture two-colour printed crimped cases, baking liners and tulip muffin wraps. Going forward we will be able offer up to six-colour versions to plant and craft bakers, supermarket instore bakeries, coffee shops and retailers of baking products. “These new, sophisticated products will appeal to both bakers and coffee shops who are looking to offer their customers something a bit different and more adventurous than a plain white or brown case. They will also help cupcake makers add considerable value to their product and enable them to present their work in a high-quality printed case. “They are manufactured to strict food hygiene standards using high quality

pure greaseproof paper and food safe ink.” Chevler currently makes over a billion crimped cases and tulip muffin wraps a year at its Hengoed factories south Wales. The new Rainbow cupcake cases are available in the ever popular 51mm x 38mm size and are available from local stockists in quantities as low as 360 giving every business, whatever its size, the chance to participate. The 160 x 160 x 50mm base tulip muffin wraps are packed in sleeves of 200.
