Brand Focus CELLO

20

Founded by Brian Palmer in the 90s, Cello Electronics is a proud innovator, an agile technology specialist, and the only LED TV brand that still manufactures products in the UK. In this exclusive interview Francesca Seden talks to director Suzie Palmer about the company’s new Samsung Tizen-powered TV range, about some of the benefits of UK manufacturing, and ponder the next viral kitchen gadgets…

Question (Q): - Tell me a bit about Cello, how was the company was founded? What sets it apart in today’s competitive market? Suzie Palmer (SP): “We’ve been going a long time, nearly 29 years now. It was set up by Brian Palmer, who is my father. He originally had a vision for a wide range of televisions that would be cost effective and appeal to a wide range of people while maintaining very high- quality standards.

Alongside that, he is now and always has been, really passionate about innovation. That’s where we started. We initially made a lot of OEM products for some big high street retailers, and over time we marketed ourselves a bit more, before making our own brand.

Being a relatively small company, we’re the right size to be able to move fast with ideas. So that combination of being really into innovation and being mobile means that we can do good things quickly.

For example, Cello launched the first TV to

stream BBC iPlayer. I know the big brands came not that long after, and so got all the headlines, but we did it before them. Our size allows us to identify gaps in the market and respond swiftly, and Brian’s strong focus on innovation really drives that forward.

Q - Could you tell me about any new innovations or launches in the TV space? SP: We’ve introduced a new range of large- screen TVs built on Samsung’s Tizen operating

system, with 32-, 40-, and 50-inch models available at fantastic price points. Toward the end of the year, we’ll also be launching a 4K QLED range, again powered by Tizen, offering exceptional picture quality and strong specifications. It’s a great platform. intuitive, reliable, and paired with pricing that we think consumers will find very appealing.

Q - And what do you think are the key features that you believe will stand out to retailers and consumers? SP: Well, it’s got a massive app Library, first of all, and that really appeals to people these days, as well as that, the Samsung Tizen software has very, a very good gaming platform, which is interesting. It’s slightly different to what others are offering.
