Discussion of the latest retail strategies at the TCG Summit

ext year, on 31 March to 2 April, top management of the leading European and national tech retailers as well as top-level executives from the consumer electronics industry from more than 25 countries will come together at the seventh TCG Summit in Budapest. This is the leading international CE congress for senior executives to share the actual challenges and look upon the opportunities that they generate across the industry. The international electrical retail market has witnessed

unprecedented and rapid changes over the past few years for both retailers and brands. The global tech giants of technology and social communities, namely Amazon, Alibaba (a platform for global wholesale trade with millions of products in over 40 major categories, including consumer electronics), JD.com (a giant Chinese e-commerce company headquartered in Beijing) and Facebook, are reinventing retail across the world. At the same time, share prices of leading tech retailers in Europe declined significantly. Moreover, Chinese conglomerates acquired market

share in Europe by taking over well-known appliance companies such as Gorenje and Hoover Candy. This is forcing electrical retailers to adapt quickly to not be left behind. This speed of action required will be reflected in the overarching theme of the seventh TCG Summit edition: “Bold and Agile”. Delegates will join the Think Tank for electrical retail and share their expertise, insights and best practices with respect to voice and social commerce, supply chain, the Asian market, collaboration models, competition law and privacy.

The superpower from the East

The Chinese market is moving towards the online channel at a pace never seen before. Depending on the product category, between 70- 80 per cent of the revenues are already generated by the two leading conglomerates: Alibaba and JD.com. New channels have emerged that are new to Western brands. In Europe, Alibaba seems to possess and follow a clear masterplan. Last August, the Chinese online leader opened its first physical store, AliExpress, in Madrid. It is expected that Alibaba will become the next big marketplace and challenger to Amazon in Europe. In Budapest, a top executive from Alibaba will talk about the tech giant’s strategy for Europe and how a major Western brand can establish a gateway to the seemingly ever-increasing Chinese market.

Tech giant from the West Amazon strives to be the most customer-centric company. An important element of this is the supply chain;

availability, delivery speed and keeping the

promise to the customer are the most important drivers when designing a state-of-the-art fulfilment network. These ambitions have driven Amazon’s investment in its fulfilment network over the last two decades. But how do the US giant brands cooperate in the supply chain to delight the customer? What are differences in serving a supply chain for online and offline stores? At the TCG Summit 2020, the Director of EU Supply Chain Programs will share his insights.

Voice Commerce – the next big disruptor in retail Voice assistance is now starting to reshape the entire customer journey. From search (250 billion inquiries last year) to post-sale service. For retailers, voice can create a high-loyalty bond between their retail brand and customers; if this trend is not observed closely, retailers could potentially lose many customers. An internationally known expert from USA will outline the industry implications of this transformative technology. At the seventh TCG Summit, top leaders from the TCG industry on stage will include: Karl Wehner (Alibaba Group), Jean-Baptiste Thomas (Amazon Marketplace UK), Frank Bussalb (Mediamarkt Saturn), Hans Carpels (Euronics International), Antreas Athanassopoulos (Dixons Carphone Group), Enrique Martinez (Fnac Darty Group), Erik Sonsterud (Elkjop Nordic), Lucas Perraudin (Facebook), Enrique Fernandez (M.video/Eldorado, Russia), Bulent Gurcan (TeknoSA), Nilesh Khalkho (Sharaf, UAE), Andrea Scozzoli (Unieuro), Karl Trautmann (ElectronicPartner), Anna Ohlsson-Leijon (Electrolux), Gregor Ulitzka (Amazon EU), Alessandro Stanzani (Canon Europe), Carsten Olesen (Harman International), Emmanuel Fromont (Acer), Cyril Buxtorf (Groupe SEB).
