HOUSEWARES AWARDS 2023

Best Multiple Retailer of the Year • Borough Kitchen • Fenwicks

• Dunelm • Robert Dyas WINNER: Borough Kitchen

After opening its Borough Market store in 2013, Borough Kitchen expanded to Hampstead and Chiswick. Its stores include small, intimate cook schools with Gaggenau appliances and products from its catalogue. In October 2020, the business opened its flagship store and most central cook school in Islington Square. When deciding the ultimate winner in this category, the panel of judges were drawn to Borough Kitchen’s level of professionalism and expertise, as one judge on the panel said: “They seem to really have an emphasis on only stocking quality products and rigorously testing their products before putting them out on the shelves. This also allows them to create strong marketing messages as they have a deep level of product knowledge.”

HIGHLY COMMENDED: Fenwicks

In Fenwicks’ entry, the business highlighted its focus on luxury as its main differentiation from other retailers in the category. See below an excerpt from Fenwicks’ entry: When John James Fenwick opened his store as Mantle Maker and Furrier in 1882, he did so with a commitment to luxury, an uncompromising eye for quality and the passion to serve his clients with the very best he had to offer. From the first day JJ Fenwick opened the doors of his shop to today, those same values are at the forefront of the Fenwick vision and the Fenwick experience. The judges were impressed by the business’ continued focus on luxury and granted Fenwicks the honour as a runner-up in an extremely competitive category.

Best Garden Centre of the Year • Bents Garden Centre • Garsons

WINNER: Bents Garden Centre

One of the judges described Bents as “a beautiful garden centre” while another commented “Bents totally blew me away with many varied products and an amazing restaurant.” Since it was started in 1937, the family-owned garden centre has thrived and received the ultimate title of Best Garden Centre of the Year.
