CHILDHOOD AMBITION
How did you get involved in franchising? We visited the National Franchise Exhibition in Birmingham… and bought a franchise! After we sold it, we then worked to franchise Wilkins Chimney Sweep.
Your career highlight so far? Being awarded New Woman Franchisor. I am most proud of this and the ‘Inspirational Woman in Franchising’ award I received towards the end of my time with Wilkins.
SHE LIKES A GOOD READ
What was your childhood dream job? International helicopter-based paramedic. I did the international bit, and I have been on a helicopter, and did a bush paramedic course in Australia… but the three didn’t quite collide!
How do you relax? Exercise, read crime novels, watch Coronation Street and go to comedy shows! Oh – and I drink gin or Southern Comfort.
LIVE SESSION: JAMES BLUNT
Tell us your dream holiday destination On my holiday bucket list is to go to India to see the tigers.
...and your fantasy dinner party guestlist? Controversially, Margaret Thatcher. She became the fi rst woman PM when I was young... I’d like to know how she built resilience as she came under fi re. Also, Michelle Obama – I think she has a lot to offer in the way of understanding. And my secret guilty pleasure would be
50
Noel Fielding! He and I are totally different in many ways but he makes me laugh.
What's on the party soundtrack? My husband, Peter, will DJ and James Blunt would also be a guest and give a live concert.
Who’d play you in the fi lm of your life? Juliet Stephenson (Truly, Madly, Deeply – Bend it Like Beckham) – people think I look like her! Or Miranda Hart. Apparently, I am very similar in a lot of ways!
Do you follow any sports? I fell in love with Aussie rules football when I lived in Sydney – I follow Sydney Swans and can still sing their theme song! Cheer, cheer the red and the white…
What business philosophy do you live by ? Never compromise your values – do things properly and if you can’t fi nd another way, only relax your code if you can still face yourself and speak confi dently to others without having to lie. Find good people who want you to succeed and will talk straight with you – who park their egos at the door and won't pander to yours.
How would you like to be remembered? As being kind, fair and honest whilst working very hard to do the very best by people. And as slightly bonkers!
