Adapt and thrive... A
s a species, we only got this far by adapting to constantly shifting circumstances. To survive in business it’s also
essential to evolve continually, to adopt and maintain an open mindset. Change isn’t always easy, but it is inevitable. The ability to adapt to different ways
of living and working is something we’ve all had to develop of late. It may be that your circumstances are almost unrecognisable from this time last year, including your employment situation. If that’s the case, you are in the right place to begin your personal evolution! Franchise brands themselves are good at moving – and growing – with the times. Made up of networks of franchisees who are sensitive to the needs and nuances of their local markets, franchise brands are able to draw on experiences from within the network and
adjust their operations to keep up. Franchisees also a share knowledge,
skills and intelligence between themselves, as they are not in competition with their neighbouring and fellow franchisees, but rather each of them works to make the brand a success. We’ve heard a lot about 'community' over the last few months, and it's very much on a community principle that successful franchise networks operate already – to the benefit of everyone involved. One of the often-quoted truths about
franchising is that you're 'working for yourself but not by yourself' and that's why the franchise model is so popular. While you're gaining independence and the ability to scale your business, potentially generating unlimited income, you also have the support of your franchise head office, your fellow franchisees and, importantly, the back up of a tried-and-tested franchise model
from an established brand. Whichever sector you come from ,
there is potential to break into another. Most franchisors aren't necessarily looking for people with experience in their industry, but rather those with key transferable skills. Check out the management feature over on page 29 to read about franchisees who oversee teams delivering services for them, so that they can work 'on' the business rather than 'in' it. On the subject of evolution once
more, I'm delighted to announce the launch of Business Franchise Webinars - a new platform through which to finesse your high-quality research into franchising.
