Just as Stagecoach clearly does, any good franchisor will take the viewpoint that investing heavily in franchisee recruitment is the route to delivering international success, since their franchisees are representing the brand across the globe. This franchisor investment is essential to providing an equal amount of support, time and resource to building a healthy and happy network. Needless to say, cracking new markets brings its own business challenges, so if you are interested in franchising with a brand that is new to your territory – or in taking one overseas – both you and the franchisor should seek specialist guidance and advice throughout the process.

Fra nchisee of the Year short list announced

The shortlist for the 21st bfa HSBC Franchise Awards has been revealed ahead of what is set to be the biggest and most diverse final yet, with a record number of female franchisees in the running. In addition, two new awards have been created – Young Female Franchisee of the Year and Young Male Franchisee of the Year – in order to showcase the wealth of emerging talent in this field. Latest figures reveal that more female franchisees and under 30s than ever before are taking on franchise units and building a business – this trend was very much reflected in the applications.

"The awards recognise how well the fra nchisee is working in ensuring best pra ctice, implementing innovation and helping the wider community"

There were outstanding case studies

presented for our young franchisee category, so much so that we shortlisted six in this category and split it into two. This goes to show the trend in our recent survey is continuing. The diversity of franchise systems and the franchisees shortlisted are indicative of an industry that is booming. Other categories in the awards include Business Transformation, which focuses on second-generation franchisees, Customer Engagement, for those who go above and beyond for the customer,

and Multi-unit, where the owners have built up trust with the franchisor, creating great success for the brand. There’s also the Lifestyle category, showcasing those who have presented exceptional results while being able to mould their franchise around life commitments. Andrew Brattesani, head of franchising at HSBC, shared his congratulations with the finalists: “Well done to all the shortlisted franchisees in their respective categories. To be recognised in this way proves how well the franchisee is working in ensuring best practice, implementing innovative approaches and helping the wider community.” Franchisee finalists come from a wide

variety of brands. These are: ActionCOACH, Barking Mad, Bright & Beautiful, Card Connection, The Christmas Decorators, The Creation Station, Driver Hire, Home Instead, Molly Maid, Rainbow International, Right at Home, Sandler Training, Snap-on Tools, Speedy Freight, Stagecoach, Tutor Doctor and Window to the Womb. The winners will be announced at

the Vox, Birmingham (pictured), on 27 June – and we're very much looking forward to it! l
