adfield Home Care was started back in 2008 by brother-and-sister team Dr Hannah MacKechnie, who is a qualified


GP, and Alex Green, who has a career background in finance. The siblings had a fantastically unique upbringing of being raised in a residential home for elderly people, which gave them the insight and ability to create a homecare company focused on providing exceptional care to elderly people. Radfield Home Care specialises in care for elderly people who wish to remain living at home. While lots of other franchises are trying to cram as many services into their offering as possible, Radfield Home Care is taking the opposite approach and stripping it back.

The elderly homecare marketplace is booming, as people are living longer and they are wishing to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. Over 76 per cent of all homecare visits delivered in the UK are to elderly people and many now have to fund their own care. The private elderly care marketplace clearly offers the greatest opportunity and is why Radfield Home Care has positioned itself within this space to maximise the potential. Being so successful in the private care arena means that franchisees are able to retain control


of their business costs and not be affected by local authority budgetary cuts. This also allows them to create a culture within the business that lets them really value and reward their care staff. The care sector as a whole has recruitment and retention challenges; however, the methods Radfield Home Care has used, and will share with its franchisees, have proved extremely successful, driving staff retention from 30 per cent in 2013 up to 89 per cent in 2016. Focusing the care services offered also helps to mitigate a significant part of the business risk, as elderly care is inherently a lower-risk activity than providing care in the learning disability or children’s care sector. This also helps with recruitment and retention of staff, as the training burden on them is lower and their relative expertise will be greater. Radfield is looking for ambitious people with a desire to create something for themselves but who also value the supportive structure that the business can provide. Franchisees do not need to have had prior homecare experience to establish a Radfield Home Care franchise, as the company can support you to recruit these skills into your business. However, you do need to have a passion for creating your own worthwhile and meaningful franchise. n
